I care because it is what is happening in the industry!! Not a "troll"", if it was, I would have posted when it came out at ~11 am EST. Another embarrassment to YRC is that their sales force did not get notified till ~1:30 pm EST. And when I posted, it was 6 hours after it was released and not a mention of it here at that time.

Here is a fact, any customer that is looking to ship over the weekend at the end of the month will already have that negotiated for a reduced or free charge. For YRC to post it as a "carrot" today on their website is not going to drum up much business. Then again, since they are doing this weekend service for FREE, they may be expecting for the drivers to do it for the same, or straight-time.

This is a tough time for the trucking industry and the strong will weather through. Strong means to be profitable with minimal/no debt.

Trying to get new business what a terrible idea. Why do Sat and Sun pickups when no one else reaaly does it. Lets all just complain about going out of business. You guys are the worst. The boards use to be good to get some info on but its nothing but garbage talk anymore.

I got an idea. If they call the laid off guys this weekend because they need the drivers to deliver all the free freight, let's all say no.

Morons in charge

Apparently it didn't occur to the knuckleheads running this company that the end of the month isn't until TUESDAY, June 30th!!!

Now how on earth would you know that the YRC sales force weren't notified until 1:30 PM EST? Keep in mind that Jeff does his best but not everything news worthy is posted on the boards the minute it becomes available.

Here is another fact. If customers are looking for a shipping bargain on some last minute orders they may have found it with YRC. Any new business right now is a good thing. Tell me, would you turn it down?

Many YRC areas have a workforce over the weekend that can make those pickups at the straight time rate of pay. This location does as do many others. You might want to keep that in mind the next time you get the urge to do some YRC and Union bashing. We have a great deal of flexibility company wide do to local and area work rules.

True, strong companies will weather this storm. Strong also has another meaning. The will to live comes to mind. We are struggling and gasping for breath but we aren't dead yet.

If you think for one minute the posts you read on this forum is a sign of weakness you had better think again. This is a place for us to vent and shed the burden of our frustrations. Frustrations of people who care. Nothing more. There is still plenty of fight left in us so think again before you kick sand in the face of someone that is down.

I would assume your second post had nothing to do with the "sharing of information" but rather the frustrations you must be feeling with the realization that YRC is going to survive. I hope you didn't make to many promises to your customers that you may not deliver on.

I am just thinking out loud here...:woot2: but most of the shops in my area are only working a four day a week, if not on summer shut down that is longer this year because of the economy. Just wait till General Motors shuts down for nine weeks, then you will see a lot of shops on shut down!!!

My sons shop has put him on call for work... he gets his call on Fridays to see if they will even open the shop up for the next week.

So I don't think there will be much of a call for that service here in my area.

I know of the 1:30 time since I spoke with one of the YRC reps that told me when he was advised. All I am saying is that I do not see this plan as strongly beneficial to YRC and also shows lack of communication.

As for my second post, maybe my tome was a bit sour, but more of a reaction of being accused of "trolling". I have been in the business for quite a few years and I do not like to see good companies destroyed by poor management and decisions. The YRC direction of buying companies to gain market share went so wrong and looks to be at the cost of a few good companies.

it seems to me that the man's point is once again YRC treated its employees like enemy spies by keeping everything a secret from them, even the sales people.

Understood.

No doubt, the timing of this move in retrospect wasn't good mostly due to the tanking of the economy. However, if the economy hadn't gone south as it did, we might all be on here complaining about working too much and not getting enough rest. I guess we all can express opinions as Monday morning quarterbacks but who knows what might have been??
