Hello everyone... My question is this. I saw a post at UPS Freight : Careers for a "Road Driver" position in Cincinnati Ohio. I am currently employed at Con-Way Freight as a Night Linehaul Driver for the past four years and I would really like to get on at UPS Freight. I filled out all the questions that were asked on the website to apply but I haven't heard a thing. I have left 4 messages for "Doug" at the Cincinnati Terminal (Responsible for hiring) and he has yet to return any of my calls. I have 14 years exp. driving and I have pulled doubles all 14 years. And I have over 1 million miles accident and injury free. Now what should I do? Thank you all in advance.

You should be hired keep calling!!!

Is the UPS Freight Roaddriver opening for future postions? Are you getting enough miles/hours currently at Conway? If you come over here, you'll more than likely be running extraboard, at my terminal we've had to lay off a few extraboard drivers, they now run in the city. Make sure CIN doesn't have anyone on layoff, that might be why they haven't called you back, they have to recall laid off employees to work before bringing anyone else on. Keep trying though, good luck to you...

Hey guys/gals, thanks for the comments, I do appreciate the help. I will continue calling. Hope to meet some more of you guys in the very near future. I used to run out towards Pittsburgh with M & M (Ron) out of the Cincinnati UPS Freight yard and sometimes I would run up 71 N with Bulldog out of the UPS Freight Louisville yard and they both are very high class/professional drivers. But thanks again. You see the Con-Way truck, shout at us, it might be me.

Call the terminal and get Doug's e-mail address!

Starting an impersonal dialog such as this could propel You to the top of the heap and give You that advantage that is going to be necessary in the here and now - since there are so many people applying!

Good Luck - Driver! :1036316054:

It's all about luck nowadays.

Just telling you the truth thats all.

You have to watch the "future openings" line in the job listing. I just opened up the Ohio page and the only thing it is showing is Dayton for future openings. It also shows road and city openings at Neenah Wisconsin. There is no Neenah terminal, that was the street address of the interline carrier that ran northern Wisconsin for us. The zone terminals are not run out of Neenah. This website has a lot of bad information on it.

Call him either before 7am or after 9am or before 3pm. These guys spend a lot of time on conference calls.

Sorry guys I didn't mean to get anything stirred up. I just wanted some helpful advice from some of the drivers. We just got everyone back to work at Con-Way that we had layed off. 3/4 of them don't have a clue and really shouldn't be in this line of work anyways. Most of them can't maintain this type of pace, 1/2 of them are overwhelmed with all the paperwork and numbers and none of them have any :shift:driving exp, let alone with a set of doubles during the winter:TR10driving03:.

That is good news. We have also grieved it here. Lets hope it gets changed. I would love to move to PA.

Each terminal likely has 500+ applications for road driver at this point, so luck does play into it. With so many applicants it sometimes comes down to who calls when the TM gets the approval or who might have made the best impression. Calling frequently might give you that edge, but it might frustrate them. Either way it's long odds and not calling almost certainly assures you of them not calling you. And the reality is that the best, most qualified driver probably isn't going to get the job if he isn't the one who made the best impression on the TM.

All terminals have opened up the hiring process to build up a pool of recent applications so that if and when YRC goes under they can begin hiring.

I've known quite a few people who have gotten hired that have communicated with the TM for months before they were actually hired. I personally had conversations with my TM five months before I was actually hired. It takes a while and you might not get hired right off the bat, but keep working on it and it will happen.

You might also want to consider coming in to work the dock as a casual right now. You will be considered for those full-time openings before they hire anyone off of the street. That is if you can afford to work for the casual rate. It might be worth it in the long run, but then again, maybe not. Perhaps you can pick up a day job and work here at night while you're waiting for them to hire you full-time. If I were a TM I would have more respect for you in that you were willing to come in as a casual in order to get this job. Too many drivers out there refuse to work the dock and they will in for a rude awakening in the near future.

Good luck to you...

Thank you for the additional information. While 35% of my current job as a Con-Way Night Linehaul driver is dock work, me working the dock is not an issue. I will keep those other things in mind as well. Thank again.

Hi'ya, Lost Cause. Saw you had put in for a road driver position and tried to get Doug to answer back. By contractual obligation for existing positions, they must post the job opening for a minimum of 14 calendar days and, the most senior employee bidding (not limited to the Cincinnati terminal) on the job shall be awarded the position. After the 14-day period, if no "in-house" employee bids on the position, the company has the right to fill the position with a junior employee or new hires. But, just in case, here's Doug's e-mail address : [email protected]
