ABF | Another 5% paycut?

The reason all discussions turn to YRC is that is where the action is... Before CF shut the doors, I was often on the Yahoo financial site for their stock, and there were an amazing amount of posts there right up to the day they closed the doors... You really should be glad our section isn't very busy!!!
:Off-Topic:

I read the vote passed, and YRC will be cutting more rates. This was said in the press release from their CEO.

"With the support of our employee-owners and other stakeholders, we continue making progress with our comprehensive recovery plan - realizing efficiencies from the YRC integration, restoring financial strength and positioning YRC Worldwide for future success," said Bill Zollars, Chairman, President and CEO of YRC Worldwide. "The contract changes enable us to reduce our cost structure, preserve capital and be more competitive in the marketplace."

This is only going to hurt ABF in the long run and YRC will still shut down, With the discounts they are giving, YRC will price them self right out of business. Good luck to all at YRC and to us ABF concessions are a coming. :TR10driving03:

Something will have to give. I doubt that the ABF Teamsters will vote for any cash givebacks. I don't know how but I have a feeling that YRCW has opened the door for ABF to get out of the MEPFs.

That is the problem, Conway can haul it at that rate and make a profit.

theres noway conway is making a profit on this freight! their ether breaking even or losing money! And from what our salesman told us their hauling it for NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!:eck13:

They are not hauling it for nothing, They are making money, not much, but they have a good operating ratio. Don't just go by what your saleman says. Do a little research. Investers like what they see. Conway stock is nearing $50 double from this time a year ago.

Thousands being laid off every week & the stock market continues to rise? I did a little research and came up with that the people on wall street know about as much as bill zollars knows about running a trucking company.

I can't disagree with you when it comes to Bill Zollars and a few other CEO's.

they made that profit of the backs of their drivers (concessions) = (cost reductions)
That profit was about the same as what the drivers gave up in wages and bennies
IF..that didn't happen..they would not have posted a profit

so in essence...you are correct....but profit is profit.
and we are left to compete w/that.

But should ABF let other companies dictate what wages and bennies we have? Better not!

I have also said "I believe the UNION has opened the door for ABF to get out"

disadvantaged by YRC.
It is one thing to COMPETE with another company...It is another to compete with a union that changed the rules that BENEFIT a company that would have and should have failed.

I think if things do not improve in the freight industry, that ABF will ask for some relief from their Union employees soon, just as other Company's are doing besides YRC, Conway, Wards, etc.

GUYS, ABF has to have some concessions, both in work rules and wages. ABF now has the highest wages/bennies costs in the industry. They can't hang with the rate slashing going on unless they get something from somebody--and it ain't gonna be the customers.
Whatever they want, I will vote for.

Sheep

ABF has been bragging about how much money they have in CASH...
EVERY truckline that has taken concessions has eventually failed.
We were told that ABF does NOT want that haunting them.
So..they are between a rock and a hard spot...If yrc goes down..everything will get back to normal.

REMEMBER>>YRC caused all of this...If they didn't try to buy everyone (on credit) to become the largest truckline (the UPS of freight) none of this would be happening!
The economy does play a factor...but what is making it so unfair is the $11 dollar per hour in wage and benefits difference. Thank our own union for that (saving yrc) at the cost of ABF
If...and I mean IF...they continue to loose money (they can afford to loose 10 mill a quarter for the next 5 years before they blow all of it)
ABF is buying BRAND NEW TRAILERS AS WE SPEAK!
That goes against our operating ratio..Gee think they may be trying to show larger lost for a convincing argument?
If thing are so bad they would have placed a hold on it AS THEY HAVE BEFORE!
How long have you been here?? not long enough to know ::shit::

We need not wait till $ gone..but, wait for another 2 quarters is fair...lets see then. evaluate..THINK..use your mind.
Employees will keep them in business..we are a smart group
(well..most of us)
we will vote accordingly..That is if they even ask us!
They may just try to pull out of the pension again...this time they may have a legal way to do it..That's another topic.

Whatever they want I will vote for?
thou dost not have a brain...sheep just sheep.

They have one big problem we at new penn voted it down . Lets see what zollars does now and the ibt .

Shut you down if you do not vote right this time!!!!!!!This is not a game and these people are not going to play around with you guys. Vote no if you want to. New Penn workers will be wearing their Teamster shirts to the unemployment line. I'm not trying to be a :eck13: hole. I'm just being real. I hope that we all make it but you can not play hardball if you don't have a ball at all.........

The IBT is going to have to give up something to ABF. With everything they have given YRC, it is like the IBT is trying to put ABF out of business. When you look at na $10..00 per hour difference in labor cost, something has to give. IBT is in between a rock & a hard place. No coice but to try and save YRC, but risking everyone else in the process.

although i am not a yrc employee or a teamster, may i ask, what's to stop yrc from rolling new penn into them even if the vote is yes? c'mon they own both company's now anyway, if zollars wants all equipment to be pink with purple poka-dots that's what you'll have, right? my feeling is what is most advantagous to yrc's situation is what will happen regardless of what zollars has said in the past

Many people have said that it doesn't matter how the New Penn vote comes out this time, YRCW will merge New Penn in to YRC anyway. I have no ideal myself but many people do believe this is what YRCW want's to do?

Pay cuts, try $320. a week and no benefits. Can't retire just yet either.
National health care for immigrants though.
