wanting to know if we can be forced to work on a sixth day as a fulltime local cartage dock worker ? STL is where this is going on. the entire inbound shift is having to come in saturday morning.
 
I would say no, you can't be forced to work any day, you are required to fulfill your contract which says you have a set schedule, 5 consecutive days as long as you fullfill the contract you cant be fired.

The company has the right to change your schedule as long as your given enough time, also any extra work, these situations are why some employees were adhoc.
 
You wanted a contract here is what you signed up for. Work shall be scheduled for five (5) consecutive days, Monday through Friday or Tuesday through Saturday. Notwithstanding the above, the Company shall also have the right to maintain a sufficient number of full-time employees without a posted or established schedule in order to handle unscheduled and extra ad hoc work.

We got people that would almost kill for extra work. Amazing isn't it.
 
Extra work shall be offered by seniority and if there is no takers....work will be forced from the bottom of the list and up.
 
One of the golden rules, ' ask from the top,force from the bottom' usually answers most questions caused by ' needs of the business'.

Whats amazing is that people dont want to work. It seems like people want to complain and get paid great wages for doing nothing.:busted:

the way I see is that maybe these employees had plans on the weekend with their families. So maybe they do want to work but only when they are scheduled to.

STL seems to do things however management decides, the contract means nothing to management!
How did the saturday work thing go down?, how many showed up?, how many no shows were written up?

The contract will mean nothing to management as long as the employee's (members) don't enforce it.
 
well karenk one out of twenty called in . one went home sick after one hour. the one called in could not get a babysitter. everybody works the hours when asked during the week , but this is a weekend where some get their kids and soforth. as stated they made the entire shift show up no top to bottom or sign up for extra work. only a very few know the contract or care to file. hell i cant get these people to attend the general meeting.
