On the severance they are beginning to deny them to the junior drivers based off of operational needs. The buyout package was more popular than anybody anticipated and we are now looking at being short drivers.

An issue to raise though that is just starting is these people that took the buyout were not allowed to participate in the dovetail process or voluntary transfers but now that they are being forced to stay are arguing that they should be allowed to take one of these spots, a true nightmare in the making.

I don't think we are ready for the change to Freight and this economy rail crap. I think we will crash and burn due to not enough tractors, people or time with the crazy rail schedules. It will be interesting to watch.

Isn't it funny how everybody had two or three days to make a decision on taking the buyout or not, but now they want to back up and say, well, things have changed, we need more people than we thought:poster_stupid:. They should have told everybody, you have until Jan 15, or whatever date to sign up for the severance pkg. It's bullshit

If you signed the papers, it should be a legal and binding contract, signed, sealed and delivered! They should be held to it!

Lets be realistic here guys, think outside the box. Down here in Texas its is slow....very slow. In the past 3 years our facility has lost 50% of our bill count. Competition....yes, people in management at our barn, the other half of the problem. I think after the merger, the rumor is saying another workforce reduction layoff, perfect timing. Lets tell all the displaced they are safe, we will keep them on till March, then pull the rug out from under them and wont have to pay a dime. Not to mention if they go up on rates in January, if you tie it all together, it makes perfect sense. What a helluva way to save some damn money.

You can never anticipate what this company will do. I always expect the worst from fedex and hope for the best! Grab your shorts gentleman! I expect this to be one hellava ride

I belive the issue on this subject is,

If you took the severance offer, but now are being forced to stay then why should we be forced to take the leftovers, or go to the bottom.....These driver should be allow to pick and dovetail like the rest of us did, not be punished because FX changed there minds after the fact..

To look to the future I don't see any drivers being in jeopardy for the second round. I do believe in the late spring early summer another round of adjustments will be coming. I think it will sting management, clerical and the dock but the numbers I have seen lead me to think we are short drivers in this plan.

Another issue with severance being denied that wasn't stated was all of the magical positions people got and even promoted into that weren't posted.

The whole thing is a mess that those of us that stay will deal with for years to come

As far as dock workers.....all of us drivers are being eliminated off the dock at our barn, and being replaced with part-timers. Even some of our road drivers that work our outbound dock are being kicked off the dock here, but they will still get to work the dock at the hub. Its the "new FedEx", gotta love it.

Once Again Guys

They have no clue what they're getting themselves into in regards to dealing with the railroads.
An idea such as this is akin to paying $700 mil for a 2nd-rate LTL carrier and having 50 trucks show up to the customer.
I don't know who thinks this stuff up...probably the same dummies who ordered all those junk prostars with the hilariously appointed tag-axles and nascar tires.
Real good for tooling around in the snow/ice.
Folks, we're traveling aboard a ship of fools in steerage class...that's all there is to it.
ICEBURG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't mean to be insulting to you Mike and I'm not sure I understand your comment on the 700 mil carrier but I have read many of your posts and I must say it scares the hell out of me when I agree with anything you say and you have just scared me. I am not a fan of the new automatic tag axle trucks with the drag slicks for the snow and ice or a good rain for that matter and as for the rail thing I think it's gonna blow up in there face but in a different way in that if we ever do get busy and the economy class catches on I don't think the rail is gonna be too accomodating as far as on time service if they get busy and I know we are big but having run the rail yard after my run I can say that they really don't care what we think and we will get it when we get it which may cause a rethink of the planners as far as putting some of the freight back on the road and maybe needing some more drivers again but probably not til after summer is here and alot of us have moved on and or can't or wouldn't come back because of the severence guidelines and some hard feelings. There by causing greater expense in hiring from the street and then the learning curve that will occur. Just my .02 and once again not trying to bash any senior drivers (Mike) have a good Christmas all.

I do think the rail idea is solid if utilized right. We railed with Watkin's too. If done correctly, and the key being correctly we have the oppurtunity to move the freight cheaper than utilizing outside carriers. I think some of the lanes though would be cheaper to run with the old contractor system that was eliminated as they were the cheapest way to move freight and would carry a better on time percentage than the rails I would bet.

I think where this rail system will struggle is the lack of people to perform the duties and getting it synced up so that the rails go loaded both ways across the country to maximize effeciency. Another issue will be the ingate/outgate times as I do not believe our terminals are next to rail yards, what about the driver dropping a rail off, will one be there to pick up or will that require a second driver? I just don't think with just over a month to go that we are anywhere near ready for this new system.

Also what about the employees that chose to leave and no longer want to be a part of the company that are being forced to stay. How much money are they going to cost us in lost productivity and claims? A majority decided this wasn't for them and now we are going to force them to stay? It is not a situation I look forward to.

I understood who he was talking about I just didn't feel that Watkins or as it stands now FXNL was a second rate carrier I have worked for both FXF and FXNL and they are very similar in operation and have talked to many of the old timers who assure me(with a grain of sal of course) as I have no real knowledge of this but that Watkins was not a second rate carrier. I was trying to take a little jab at the OP of the comment I posted but perhaps my sarcasim was lost.
