I was asking in a previous thread if anyone has had to rotate days off yet? I know my center is doing it about every 2-3 weeks a day off. Just wondering...

we were about the same until 2 weeks ago now it is every week one day off for all drivers!!! Funny how it happens like this during the last quarter????

everythings numbers now, thats all they care about.

If thats all they cared about you would be layed off!!! Numbers are important and business decisions have to be made. Just about all ltl carriers have cut pay, layed off, cut 401 match, turned trucks down, do I need to go on? I rotated a total of three days in the last 12 months, I am next on the list, but that aint bad. I've said it before, if you are not happy, find a place that will make you happy, if that is possible.

Tinabell, you must be a line haul driver if you have only rotated 3 times in the past 12 months or your terminal is a real exception to the rule. I know our line haul drivers rarely rotate. True SEFL hasn't messed with our 401 k match or layed off anyone, in which I am thankfull. Don't really care if they turn the trucks down or not, but pay cuts...No we haven't taken an hourly pay cut but when we were getting 40-45 hours and now we are only getting 32-35 hours, to me that is a pay cut. However, it doesn't really bother me cause I would rather cut my hours by a few than just lay me off.

That was just my point. I realize my terminal and the fact I'm a linhaul driver is the exception. I am an end of line terminal and we rotate as much if not more than all the others, and we were lucky in linhaul the we also volunteered for some days off, so that helped as well.
My point in writing what I wrote is that some are always negative, and we all are extremely fortunate. I wanted to put a positive spin on things. The freight levels are bad for all companies, and ours has kept us as busy as they can.
If the big wigs at the big house come on here and get the feeling that we are not thankful, they may take another look at the current policies and follow the lead of the other companies. I for one feel as if I am far enough up the ladder, and do my job well (run ahead of my gate time) enough that it shouldn't hurt me should they lay off. But I am conserned about my co-workers.
Not to mention that life is just easier to deal with if you can remain positive. If you let things roll off your shoulder, put a positive spin on it, you will be happy. If not you will be cold hearted and ticked off all the time. Just a thought.

what is it with you guys that every time some one does not agree with you or expreses their displeasure with something you tell them to leave . you learn so much more by adversity and listening to other peoples problems than sticking your head in the sand and hoping the " big wigs" don"t get mad over something you say. we have had rotation days in florida for almost 2 years. we have drivers who use to work 55 hr. now working 30 to 40 hrs. their homes are in forclosure the cars are being repossed and many are having relationship problems. and while southeastern has not had a layoff , which is good, they have handled the poor economy in a different way. 1 rotaton day off a week is a 20% pay cut. 1 day off every 2 weeks is a 10% pay cut. 1 day off a month is a 5% pay cut. so in many cases we have taken a bigger hit than other companies.all this while management and supervision has not lost 1$ of pay.
so yes things could be worse . they can always be worse. but they also could be better. just have a little compassion for your fellow employees who are in a little pain

Oh I do have compassion for others. I just don't get on here to do my bellyacheing. I could care less about making "big wigs" mad. I am currently having a battle with my T.M. I am having that battle with him and some in the big house.

But I am positive about things, that makes life easier to live. Some people have never left a positive comment on here, so they must despise there job, or that is the impression they give. If I hate my car, I buy a new one. If I hate Mcdonalds, I won't go there. Thats all I am saying. Thing's are not going to change until freight picks back up, so we need to deal with it. I guess this a better place to vent than at home, so if thats what's happening, so be it.

we are losing money in our pockets mean while the terminal manager and the sales reps, are out on the golf course eating lunch at outback. i could care less what the cats in the white house think. it aint fair that p&d drivers are the only ones who have to rotate. at some locations some of us are getting hit 2 times a week. all im saying is that there isnt any fairness with this company, if you speak your mind and they dont like it, then they put you on the black list, or show you the door.

Linehaul rotates as well, and just about as much. The differance is that the linehaul drivers are more apt to volunteer for days off, mostly due to average age (no kids at home), which slows the rotation a bit. When I rotate I am asked if I want 2 days. If I take two it's a little longer before next one comes.

I have been told that our pricing is not as agresive as last year, so it may get worse before it gets better.

I have no problem with rotation if it's done fairly. Linehaul can definately be in the rotation more. There are definately more meet and turns on friday nights. Why not let a city man who's been rotated come in and get about 400-500 miles on a friday night. That still gives a linehaul driver four days that week. With some of the checks I got this past winter three days running linehaul would work just fine for me.

That may be true in your barn but thats not the case in mine. The list for linehaul rotation at our terminal shows guys being rotated about 3 times this year. We have had city guys get rotated twice already in less than a week. When a linehaul driver gets rotated I would say the guy that fills in for him is getting really screwed. If there are to many city guys getting rotated on a given day then multiple city drivers get it handed to them with extra stops, late lunches, and multiple returns that the next man has to clean up. This is why I would like to see city drivers given the same choice as linehaul drivers. The ability to bid on your run twice a year. This will never happen in p&d though. I won't answer this because I would like to see the reasons given by others.

If city is rotating that much more then the tm has over hired in city at some point. The following is my expeience at my term only, I have asked city guys if they want to run for me to help them. They don't want to pack bag mon.-thur., and don't want to run on fri. We had a linehaul opening a couple of weeks ago, again no takers from city. A driver transfered in from Gbo. If I try to schedule vacation, sorry, no one to cover run. So IMO those drivers have no right to bellyache. As far as the bidding for p&d, beats me. I have wandered that myself.

You more than do your part to try and help others out. We are not asked to fill in for linehaul anymore just the combo guys. If a linehaul run opened up at my term there would be no problem filling that position. Our TM has over hired in the past and we have taken big hits in our paychecks. I did not even see a 40 hour check this year until the end of April. The differences in the way city and linehaul get treated are vastlt different. I don't think myself or others are bellyaching when a linehaul man may get rotated 5 times in an entire year and a city man could get rotated 5 times in less than a month. If a city man does not want to fill in for linehaul when work is available he should not cry about his paycheck then. Beggars can't be choosers. The reason city drivers will never get to bid on runs IMHO is because supervision will never allow the slackers to have to run the harder runs everyday and deal with the mess that creates.
