SEFL | Probably new thread for this one...

You more than do your part to try and help others out. We are not asked to fill in for linehaul anymore just the combo guys. If a linehaul run opened up at my term there would be no problem filling that position. Our TM has over hired in the past and we have taken big hits in our paychecks. I did not even see a 40 hour check this year until the end of April. The differences in the way city and linehaul get treated are vastlt different. I don't think myself or others are bellyaching when a linehaul man may get rotated 5 times in an entire year and a city man could get rotated 5 times in less than a month. If a city man does not want to fill in for linehaul when work is available he should not cry about his paycheck then. Beggars can't be choosers. The reason city drivers will never get to bid on runs IMHO is because supervision will never allow the slackers to have to run the harder runs everyday and deal with the mess that creates.

line haul drivers get treated much better than peddle drivers

Amen Sabresfan! I know city drivers will never get to bid a run,but how about making the most of this ROTATION....riddle me this...How about 4 day work weeks by BID...what if they do the rotation this way, have a driver off Monday this week,Tuesday next week, and so forth. Once a month you get a 4 day weekend. Atleast then you know when your day off will be,and you can make plans with your family, etc. and not be just off sitting around the house twiddling your thumbs on an anonymous day off! If they are averaging one to two drivers a day, then this should be no problem...and if a vaction happens to fall on YOUR week, then you can be on call that morning or whatever needs to be done for operations to run smoothly. Comment on this please...

The only bid routes we have are in the 6 , 7 ,or 8 AM start time ...easily taken by the drivers with most seniority. All the late drivers end up getting the "pot-luck" routes due to combining and cutting of routes. Sometimes that can be an adventure. Our city drivers cover for linehaul vacation unless Central overrides.
Even when I rotated during last winter I was still getting 40 a week. I can't complain. What I didn't like was rotating off and have contrack drivers move our inbound/outbound freight....hopefully that's overwith.

by working 4 days a week we are losing up to $200.00 a day, if that aint a pay cut i dont know what is.

That's more than my 15% cut at Holland. I have a few good friends at the Memphis barn and they also rotate. Most still get near their 40. Hang in there, at least your job is secure. Try 2 years of BK rumors. That will make you appreciate SEFL. GRIZZ

Grizz, You guy's at YRC have been in my thoughts and prayers. Noticed your stock has been on the rise the last week or two, "maybe" a good sign.

I like the idea of being able to schedule your rotation days. This would be a great thing for being able to plan your life. The thing I would like to see stop is dispatch calling you up and telling you to stay at the house when your on the schedule that day. They take advantage of the guys that live closer to the terminal and call them up within an hour of their start time and tell them to stay home. They have told us we don't bid on runs but start times. Whenever a run does come open they switch the way they deceide who's going to run it fo fit their needs at that time. In my opinion if you have the seinority to get that run it should be yours as long as you get the job done. All I really wish for is that things were done the same way everytime so you could go home and discuss with your family about any run that comes open. This is the right way to do things not the buddy system or we can't lose the good wild driver so we'll take care of the slacker to cover ourselves.

My friend works out of WPB and dispatch makes those drivers who are on rotation CALL IN on their rotation days to see if they are working that day????? Whats with that!!!! How does dispatch decide how many drivers are on rotation the day b4 when the schedual is being made? My friend says a blanket 3 to 5 are to "call at 9 am" every day. Can anyone EXPLAIN TO ME HOW MANY ROTATION POSITIONS ARE DETERMINED ON ANY GIVEN DAY, 1 DAY IN ADVANCE? Are any UN FORESEEN VARIABLES calculated into the EQUATION or do they sit on the edge of their seats hoping for the best..... ANYONE..... PLEASE!!!!!

It has alot to do with inbound freight and bill count....something that can't be determined until routing occurs. If they crew a certain amount of drivers for a certain day and the bill count is high then a few of the rotated drivers can be called in. It aint fair but that's how it works.

What if the manager gives a person "extra rotations" meaning taking more days off than other city drivers, just because they don't know the routes? I have plenty of experience, with another company, and have ran areas I don't know before. So I am quite capable of getting the job done, but maybe not QUITE as efficient as another driver, atleast initially. Should there not be equality and fairness as far as days given off? Otherwise it isn't a ROTATION right? Shouldn't a driver be allowed to learn other areas so that he/she may be able to be flexible in their abilities? And we do have the manpower,we have atleast two drivers off EVERYday. Not to even mention we have some drivers who work the dock, and then run routes getting 12-14 hours a day,and even on THEIR days off, they come in and work the dock for 4-5 hours ,hardly seems fair to me as I have had some weeks where I have barely even gotten 40 hours....
