I was wondering if when we call in to bid on our schedueled bid slot,if that is considered on duty not driving? I was forced to call in for my bid in the middle of my sleep and had to come to work dead tired.

I've had that happen. Our dispatcher will ask us if we want him to call us or wait. But I don't think it is maybe you could make that stretch though.

One way I got lucky and then again not. The way its been in wyo yesterday to make my call time I would've had to hit the brakes in laramie and wait .45 to one hr as not to be in a dead zone, but my run was cancelled. I would've gone for the wait time if it had been the case though

You need to have a face to face with your dispatcher. If he can't wait until you get to work to bid, then possibly give him a 3 AM call back and tell him what you want to bid on. That usually gets the point across. TP

Call block is supposed to be set up by taking drivers normal shift into count. What were they trying to do, get bid done in one day. If so, definitely not a team player. Also, I had been told that if I called a driver during his rest, he could ask for his 10 to be started over, and it would have to be honored. Cannot remember that being in the drivers manual, but that is a mute point since they dont allow you easy access to it.

Unbelievable. Are you serious? You knew when your call block was, plan for it.

How are you suppose to plan for it when you don't get home from work until 10am and receive a call a few hours later?? :Poke:

With the new bidding procedure we have if we do not call in on our call block they will pass over you and go to a junior person and you lose your spot....

Our bid call block goes for 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the evening!

They got it setup so we can't call after our 15 minute call block, if we do, we will be skipped in the bidding process. I just can't believe that they also are requiring daytime road drivers to call in the middle of their work day either. What if they don't own a cell phone and cant get to a payphone?

It's crazy how different centers do it different ways. We usually wait for them to call us and tell us it's time to bid.

Just suck it up or call off. There is no way to make everyone happy on a call bid. I've been there, it sucks, but I made it through.

you are supposed to have 10 hours of uninterupted time off duty.if it was work related you should of been able to stay off for another 10 hours if you wanted to push the issue.I have done it before.

To lock in a good bid i would plan / fall back to sleep whatever i had to do. A call block is one day. A bid is 6 months or more !!! But i want to control what i do.

Then take the extra board spot you get when you don't call in. If they accommodated everybody's schedule, you all would be complaining that the bidding process takes too long.

I gotta admit I wasn't to happy about getting up in the middle of my rest to make the bid call either....but no big deal really.
Then after I found out I won a decent schedule run I laid back down and slept like a baby!

Must be nice, I couldn't sleep, went to work with 3 hours of sleep.

Q and A from HOS rules
B-7. May a driver be called after 8 hours off-duty to report to work 2 hours later?
Yes. The HOS rule does not control communication between the driver and the motor carrier during the driver's off-duty time, so the call may occur. However, the driver cannot be required to do any work for the motor carrier during the 10 hours of off-duty time.

WOW! My sleep was interrupted I think I lost a total of MAYBE 10 minutes from start to finish for my bid call.
