"OVERLAND PARK, Kan., Sept. 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- YRC Inc., a subsidiary of YRC Worldwide Inc. (Nasdaq: YRCW), announced today the YRC Shipment Protection program designed to protect shipments that have the potential to freeze during transport. The program features two levels of service - Freezable Protection and Insulated Covers - ensuring customers with freezable products, such as chemicals, bottled beverages, pharmaceuticals and flower bulbs, can easily ship with confidence.

Freezable Protection uses special handling procedures, weather monitoring and indicators in the YRC tracking system to protect freezable shipments. As an optional, extra level of protection, more than 14,000 technically-engineered, environmentally-friendly insulated covers are available throughout the YRC network to insulate drums, pallets and totes.

"With a 99.8 percent claim-free rate for cold-temperature sensitive shipments, our experienced service professionals at YRC understand the importance of reliability - ensuring products arrive on time, safely and in optimal condition," said Mike Smid, president - YRC Inc., and chief operations officer - YRC Worldwide. "The YRC Shipment Protection program and our portfolio of other solutions meet these demands and more."

Freezable Protection is available year round with pickups Monday through Friday for all direct service points in the continental U.S., Canada and Mexico. Insulated Cover pickups are available from Nov. 1 through April 15 with pickups Monday through Friday for all direct service points in the continental U.S. and Canada. In addition to standard operating procedures in transit, "warm rooms" are used over the weekend as necessary to protect freezable shipments.

Taking advantage of Freezable Protection and Insulated Covers is easy: Customers simply mark their Bill of Lading (BOL) with "Protect from freezing at ____degrees F" or "Cover protection required."

As far as I can remember we at New Penn always had Freezeable protection. Now the great YRC has finally caught up and they announce it like they thought of it. Sorry dumb lil New penn even has heated trailers. Maybe next year our great overpaid Executives at YRCW can announce they thought of heated trailers.:biglaugh::biglaugh:

they are despret they will sugar cote anything!!!!!!!!!!!! they are not out of the water yet boys and girls even some ships are to big to save !!!!

So, how many freezable shipment claims is YRC going to pay for this winter? The good part is they are at least trying to learn how to run a trucking company.

Yellow had this service for a couple years they make it sound like something new the only problem is some terminals dont have them and ship freezables anyway and other terminals do not return them but they do work good on top of your lift to block the wind on those bitter nights on the dock!!

YRC (yellow ruins companies) WOW Freezable protection..The only thing they are protecting is there 6 figure incomes and destroying one company at a time..

Personally, I think all you NP guys could be a little more mature about this whole thing and stop whining about YRC and trying to shoot your company down all the time! It is what it is and all the bellyaching in the world won't change a thing. We all need to work together to make this happen and hope the rainmakers do their part.

Freezable protection???....If you keep the freight moving and get it there on time...it will not have time to freeze!!!....KK

They are buying all new refeer trailers for New Penn cause you guys are so hot you need to cool off between stops

I always remind dispatch when I have a freezable load. They can garage it if it will be delayed.

If your the type of person that likes to ensure things are done properly, Reminding dispatchers to do what they are suposed to.. is a good thing, because they are to busy letting you know how great they are and knowing everything and it can sometimes distract them from doing their jobs properly.:biglaugh: I couldn't resist getting a dig in!

Holland has had freezable protection blankets since 1935, how ABOUT that YRC. Yrc you aint got a CLUE, dump Zollars.:biglaugh::nutkick:

I have always been impressed with the way NP handled freezables. I have also always thought it was something bigger companies couldn't be bothered with as they handle more shipments going longer distances it would be a lot more involved and details get overlooked.

Yes, Thay are a pain the the azz to use and not really sure if they work but we use them, and as K.K. said if the freight is moving hopefully it won't freeze

Yes they are a pain but they DO work if used properly.
They say we have made a lit of money protecting freezables over the years.
I know for a fact it got us in the door to some that would have otherwise used other carriers.
