While in S. holland last week, I was told that the toledo teriminal made thier full time dock workers without a cdl go part time. Is this true? Can anyone verify this or deny this? Thanks! just wondering.

Probably true after reading this-- http://www.truckingboards.com/trucking/upload/ups-freight/66810-end-era.html

I truly miss South Holland dock compared to my current.
I like big docks .. little docks are boring. 218 DOORS > 58 whimpy doors.

Back to the topic

judgin by your avatar you all still use the old fast orange motors

i love them, we only got 3 left

ive been hearing rumors for months that all full time dock without CDL will be forced to part time.....one full time dock worker (no CDL) told me its illegal to do that......but i dont see why it would be illegal

a work stopage in this economy, im sure YRC would love it if we "UPSGF" went out on strike.
plus how many "teamsters" would walk out, or would they contuinue to work as directed.

Has anybody validated this story yet? I thought job protection was one of the reasons I voted for the union and contract, but anything goes these days. I'm sure if they can get away with it in TOL, it'll spread fast! Guess it would suck to be me and all the other red-circle guys and girls. While I like the job and company, if they want us red-circles gone so bad, let them be fair and buy us out. Done and gone. What's next? Would they try bumping all the P/T folks on the old high wage scale to the new lower one in the next contract?

FWIW, I love Whitescout's avatar too seeing it's actually a pic I took of my lift. LOL As seen on my Flikr page.

We still have 11 of the old Nissan 40's, with three of the newer (to us) grey ones we got from OCY. I'd take my 024 anyday!

LOL, :biglaugh: i like my avatar also. (thanks for the pic) Those older jeeps are nice, but they didnt last long in SOH.. youll see them for 2 weeks.. than they disappear. I liked them because you could run over pot holes on the dock and basically feel nothing and there faster. :shift: but if you run over a pothole on the newer Nissans you almost :TR10driving03:

I know i got it from flicker, but wasnt sure because i added it to my AVY months later. I wasn't trying to jack your picture :Bondage:

Hey When I was a Teamster way back in the day 1966 to be exact.
One could not get a dock job without a commercial drivers license.
Because of the bids being that a driver could bid the dock for one year if they wanted.
Where would the low man on the dock go without a license?
You got it bye bye.

I know a northern NY UPS Freight terminal that all of their dockworkers who don't have CDL's may work full-time hours, however they only get part time pay rate per hour.
That is the way they have been for as long as I can remember.

Although now that I've been retired a year and a half it may of changed there with the union?
I'm not sure?
I know the TM would promote his dockworkers to full time pay as soon as any of them got their CDL even if they stayed on as a dockworker.

Hope your enjoying retirement, Can't wait to be in your shoes. Still feeding the horses?

Yes BusterNite I'm sure it won't take you very long to start enjoying your retirement.
Every once in awhile somebody in my church will ask me how I'm enjoying my retirement?
I tell them all the same thing.
"Every day is like Saturday, get up when I want, and do what I want whenever I want."

WHOOPS I see I'm not being a very good (TB)Moderator regarding this thread topic as I've got it way off topic.
Please forgive my error.
Go ahead and post any more of your remarks on the full-time to part time dock issue.
