Does anyone know how many doors the center has over there...didnt look all that big on the satellite pic...though it was supposed to be huge...and how old is it?
 
Im not sure how many door they have at present time. I think its around 120. There seems to be a lot. I was just there not long ago and they are doing a HUGE expansion. Looks like it will be a dock at least as big as the one they have now, if not bigger.

wmphs has 153 doors and it is about the same size as harrisburg yd and was opened in 1997

I ran Memphis out of Ft. Smith AR I never once heard of West Memphis, I always said I was the last to hear stuff, dang 1997? I never ran there, just the regular Memphis yard south of Memphis.

FedEx freight is moving to the FXNL yard in West Memphis. The freight yard in South Memphis is... I don't know what there going to do with that yard. Freight is moving to the FXNL Elpaso yard also.

I'd say the reason you never heard of the FX yard at W. Memphis was probably because it was still a Watkins terminal when you ran over there.

Super Dave, Kings Disciple, thank you, I thought I was going nuts for a minute, I hope moving to the toilet of west memphis will benefit you all, that place is pure nasty, used to lay over there in 97, it was bad then, can't imagine what its like now.
 
They are going to run line haul out of West Memphis and city out of the old FXF Memphis yard. They will shuttle MEM freight from West Memphis to Memphis to be broke for city operation. Can you say 30 mile road run???????????

that's what I thought I heard....and I think they do have alot of those 30mi shuttle runs too
 
The only good out of losing 140 miles a week is when it gets icey I won't have to cross the I-55 bridge and slide with the rest of the idiots down I-55 in the road construction that might never get done. It should be interesting to say the least. I wonder how big the parking lot is for break downs and stuff. If the dock isn't any bigger than the one they are using now where they gonna put the trailers/freight at?
 
There are a LOT of 38 mile shuttle runs. I saw the draft bid for Memphis when I was classified as a displaced driver. The run pays 38 miles (or it might be on hourly pay--I don't know). I said no thanks...I was not going to move to Memphis to do that.

I let you in on some info that has been forgotten, was even posted on this forum. Just before the recession or economic downturn, Fedex Frt. bought property on the South side of Memphis for a new Super-sized freight Terminal..
I would be willing to bet a Super Terminal/Hub will be built eventually and the West Memphis facility will be phased out and city and Hub operations will be under one roof.
 
There was hope that they would build the new center over by the airport. It was suppose to be like 298 doors, 2 ramps with ample parking. They had an overhead shot stuck on the wall of the Memphis shop showing how the yard was laid out, tractor and trailer locations and everything. When the economy went into the toilet so did the plans for the new center is what we were told. I so much wanted to get off that busted concrete, leaking, wishful thinking dock. Well, come Feb. I get my wish but not really what I was thinking in the long run.....

Is the rumor true? transportation department in West Memphis.
