Heard that all casual drivers in MRT and GBO were let go.
Can anyone confirm this? Makes no sense to me as a casual driver only has to run 1 run every 6 months to stay on the board. If OD did this, they are doing away with a pool of certified, experienced, proven drivers that is in my opinion a valuable asset to this company, that does not require a lot of expense to keep on board. If this is true, then I think someone will one day realize they have made a bad decision.

Hard to keep casuals though when full time guys can't run everyday. Don't know if they have eliminated them or not but if your a casual driver anywhere for anyone at this time you better be expecting this to come sooner or later.

I've seen in previous years where terminals were not permitted to run casual drivers at certain times. Usually around the Dec - Jan seasonal slowdown. Don't know of any across the board casual "let goes". Would seem to me that is one of the big advantages of having a casual driver pool.

When there are extra board (wild drivers) that sit at home for upwards of a week at a time, there is no reason at all to have casual drivers. To be honest, I didn't know they existed within our system.

And I'll bet those are same ones that bit#@ because their not getting any miles!
I always made most of my money when I was still working wild,on weekends and holidays. If I left home on thursday or friday and got home on tuesday/wednsday if just staying out for a week I could always be sure to be moving in the opposite direction of the herd.A short while back when I was talking to a dispatcher at central I was suprised to hear her say she still had hard time getting freight moved on weekends, even with this economy!!

Taken 3 weekends off since 06, (Not counting layoff months) that were not in vacation time. These were family events. If wild, weekends are the time to truck. Try to get days off Mon. thru Wed. All holidays except Christmas. Last couple weekends noticed a lot more running than normal. Stay positive guys. Lot of scuttlebutt and dissent going on. Some I know get a pleasure out of this.

Found out from GBO that casual drivers are still employed, but they can not be used until things pick up. This sounds a lot more reasonable.

I could'nt figure out why a company would be letting casual drivers go,they really are'nt costing the company much money when they're not working (no benefits etc.)while retaining a flexable and ready trained group of workers.

All you can do, I think , is hope that the "Big Boys" calling the shots know what they are doing. But we do seem to be cut pretty short as far as drivers go.If things got busy in the N.W. we might really be short handed. Have a Good one.:shift:
