FedEx Freight | What makes FedEx Freight BETTER than UPS Freight??

Your opinion is really out of touch. Its quite amusing how someone like your self with just a standard education thinks he understands the strategy of the worlds largest transportation company. We know you are just trying to get people going here, but, I am not that easy, You see, know matter what happens in the freight industry, I will soon collect my 30 year pension with the company. You really think that UPS will give up competing with its largest competitor? How did FedEx National get into the freight business only having package experience? I am still trying to figure out who you really work for?? and why you are so afraid of UPSF???:biglaugh: Now, try again and think!!

Just getting what they payed for and making money. We don't haul for free like you do.

I am not so sure this poster (Rat) even works for FedEx Freight. He sounds like an ex Overnite manager that could not adjust.:biglaugh:

To begin with you have no idea what my education is so it rather over the top to insinuate you do.

Secondly I don't work for FedEx...my observations are my own opinion of what I have seen over the years regarding the equipment UPS Freight has on the road.

We are not hauling for free any more than UPS Freight...what make you think we are?...what makes you so afraid of Con-Way?....

I have no fear of UPS Freight....never have...just wondered why UPS Freight dropped the ball on updating and rebranding their equipment.

It just doesn't add up to the 'UPS' genre that I am so familiar with.

In the package they basically tell those peeps what color socks they can wear...doesn't seem to be that way in freight...so this begs the question...'why'?....why is freight any different in their requirements than package?...

Something is amiss in all this and I am curious...

UPS may have done their homework financially, but missed the boat operationally and historically in their purchase of Overnite. They bought a troubled company...that is a given. UP did all they could do to beat the stuffins' out of the folks at Overnite before selling them to UPS.

What UPS has done with it may be admirable but the question remains...'why the difference?'

Yes, It would appear that rats post, which is what you posted really had nothing to do with the title of this thread other than to try and get a hate thread started. What did you expect when you posted this?

Since we have to leave the pros and cons
of labor out of this converstation, we could
find other ways that the two carriers differ
from each other. This could be found in other
areas such as transit times, equipment used,
technology used for tracking and loading
trailers, customer support and sales relations.
I'm sure I'm forgetting other aspects that
make these two carriers different from each
other or the competition in general. :biglaugh:

Ok, Try and see if you can make it work. I don't see a debate here. Just a bashing contest in the making and I am not the one bashing. The Ironic thing here is a UPSF driver arguing with a Conway driver in a FedEx Freight forum about UPSF. I do not want to bore the FedEx employee's any more. Continue on and see if you can make it work.

I thought you said you were a feeder driver
and not a UPS Freight driver. I must have
miunderstood one of your post. :biglaugh:

You misunderstood, I never said I was a feeder driver. I am a 29.5 year Road driver for UPSF.

BusterNite

Thank you for the correction.
So since you have so many years
with Overnite/UPSF do you feel
that things are better now as UPSF
or do you think things were a lot better
when it was Overnite and not such a
big company with new rules as it is today.

Yes, I feel the company is in much better shape now that we are a UPS company. Overnite was a good company when it was family owned by Howard C. before Union Pacific Railroad bought them back in 1986. I feel it slowly went down hill from there. Yes, being owned by UPS brings allot of new rules and policy's to the table that were not in place before, Its a huge change compared to what we were used to, but it also brings allot more job security and benefits that we did not have before. If you were a military man (I was) the adjustment was not to hard to take.:biglaugh: I don't believe that Overnite could have sustained the economic downfall with out the deep pockets of Union Pacific, so I am very grateful that UPS bought us. UPS is slowly adjusting us to mix with parcel.

upsf has new trailors coming in now and dolly's, as far as road tractors most of them i see are new or rebranded, ups is a smart company move the old trailers out with new ones why rebrand them, city trailers a lot of them have the upsf name, and as far as the dress code we have to wear the upsf uniform black or brown shoes they even furnish the belt,

Don't forget, Those shoe's have to be polished.:biglaugh:

I'm going to chime in here.
I loved reading the opinions of our members but we really do need to keep this on topic.
Most customers don't care what side you are on, "U" or "Non". They want their stuff in as near perfect condition as possible. It's easy to prey on each other and use our past history to predict the possible future both negatively and positively.
The thread title is a matter of opinion for us frontline workers until you start digging into the huge portfolio each company offers to it's customers.
Transit times, claims, damage free and exception free pick-ups and deliveries also come into play on who will get the business from our customers and who will continue to grow. Our customers are the ones who ultimately pay each and every one of us.

Very well said.
You should be a salesman. :biglaugh:

All I can say is this... I don't see any AF or Watkins trailers being pulled by FedEx trucks.

I still see Overnight and Motor Cargo trailers pulled by overnight trucks with a sloppy sticker on the Overnight truck over the important info that says UPS Freight. They didn't throw that much money at them.

The reason that Fedex can not have Watkins trailers is because the did not buy the Watkins name.
By agreement in the sale of Watkins They had to Rebrand in 2yrs and Watkins could not compete in LTL for 5 yrs.
UPS Bought all of Overnite and due tho the downturn have pushed back their schedule on rebranding. They have gotten rid of alot of junk and have purchased 1600 new trailer. Im guessing tractors are next. They can use ONITE and Motor Cargo Trailers as long as they wish.
Just a little bit of fact here.

By the way Watkins is now a truckload company pulling a lot of LTL Freight out of their old costomers and then giving to local cartage for delivery.
Your trailers will probably be out of Romeoville before long and Flying W will take back many customers Fedex bought . Also I see them pulling Fedex National LTL Also.. Whats that all about? Charlotte Cin etc.
Heard West Coast too..

Good luck to all!!

Hello.

I have been reading through all these different reply's.

My opinion. I like both company's myself.

Being a yrcw laidoff driver. Coming from that world i am used to the union way of things. So 2 keep in line i was trying to get hired on at upsf.

But since they aren't hiring in columbus. And fedex is and they might hire me on. I will jump on board here.

And based on there total hire in package. It seems to be really close to what i had before. So point is if i have to go non-union so be it.

Question fedex freight and National. For fulltime city p@d driver. Starts out at 18.46 and tops out at 22.05 in 3 years.

I assume that each year during this time period. Everyone is getting a once a year raise. So that would be 3 raises over 3 years. One would be making more then.

What does fedex give as a average yearly wage increase.

Personally i have worked at union and non-union places. There is good and bad at both places. Being laid-off and starving for work, i say hire me on i don't care either way.

But it would be nice that fedex does kinda of work with the drivers. And honor the senority system.

Plus fedex national in there city. Doesn't have that on-call crap that i am used 2. At least that's what i was told.

So when i comes down 2 it. A good non-union company wants me great. A good union company wants me great. I try to do a good job and just get along.

Peace Brothers....

I'm a road driver so I can't help.
But I'm sure that many city drivers in Columbus from Freight or National LTL
will be able to explain some of your questions. :biglaugh:
