I heard JCY was getting a new RFID gate.Anybody passed thru there ?

Speaking of gates...have any been "remodeled" lately ? I've seen a couple "remodeled" in my time.I would hate to be near one of things when it comes off.

Darn!!!When I saw the heading "JCY Improvements"I thought maybe a B-52 might of "accidently" jettisoned its bombload on the place!!and I read its getting a new gate, somebody forgot they were pulling a trailer, did they??
Well I guess I can still dream about about the B-52 sortie on JCY.

I've never seen the JCY terminal but I've heard storys about it forever.Must be like the Twlight Zone.

The area its in is even scary in the daytime!although I cant recall ever seeing anybody walking around between the mainroad and the terminal(about a mile)the area reminds me of pictures I saw of bombed-out German cities after WW2 is about the best discription I can give you of the surrounding area, and at night its totally dark except maybe the glow from cars that have been set on fire! The terminal itself is located next to a coal/barge transfer yard for added ambiance,The yard is very crowded, dirty, and has lots of water hazards which prepares you for going inside the terminal which is just like the yard except there's a roof.I don't know what the bunkhouse looks like(I allways made damn sure I had enough hours to get some where else before commiting to a JCY trip!)for all I know they could of had the Taj Mahal of bunkhouses upstairs with beautiful Swedish models giving backrubs to tired drivers,I just wasn't willing to take that chance!!

The only back rub you might get is from them 4 legged things.

Holy crap, don't worry you are not missing a thing in the bunk house. All i wanted to do was leave, stop and and get a shower and never return!:biglaugh:

Yeah it had only been a couple of weeks after OD bought WSKT the horror stories about JCY started filtering back west and of course with each retelling the place seemed more like the black hole of Calcutta than a freight terminal, when I finally went there it was almost disapointing,Yes it was a scary looking area but no one around to bother me,the yard was small and very crowded,I had been told it was a bunk terminal,so I knew to have some hours available (but with the area I tremble at the thought of what the motels are like around there)But like so many OD terminals, the people in dispatch were friendly and efficient,I had to get a repair on an outbound trailer and the shop got right on it and I was on my way in minutes,so it really was'nt the worst place on the planet, still does'nt mean I want to sleep there!

I just saw this thread figured I'd throw my two cents in.

and yes they have an automatic gate with readers now.

as for horror storys I have heard my fair share also. so.. all I can say from my personal experience is.. it gets crowded due to yard size. just gotta be patient around there. and if it's raining you should probably bring hip waders. as for the bunkhouse.. well I've never been incarcerated but I imagine if I was it would have been much like the bunkhouse. next time someone stays there they should snap a few pics that would explain everything.

on the plus side, the dispatchers and yard guys are nice folks and they usually have freight going out all over. and thats all that really counts right.

I'll post my own sign to save the trouble :Off-Topic:

Was there last week. Stayed there a half dozen times in last 3 years. Correct on gate reader/auto gate. Darn good people, in a bad location. Never could get sleep. Walls echo everything. Either hot, or cold. Bring provisions. No reasonable place to go get food. Some deliver if time is right. Gut wagon is good, if you catch it. Ask terminal people when it's scheduled.
