TForce | New equipment

I am going to start bringing my dolly home.:biglaugh:

The shop can fabricate a pintle hook on your car.
I hear they do an excellent job at welding.

How come most drivers don't stay hooked to the newer dolly's or even bob tail with them to the hotel?
I know the older ones had no lights.

Most of the company tractors are not set up to be hauling a dolly down the road, only on property. The proper set up would be what you see on the back end of a pup to safely take it down the road.

One more thing, I see many drivers that don't hook the safety chains when moving a dolly around the yard. Those little pintle hooks on the tractors break or pop open very easy and the dolly will go for a ride hitting something or killing someone. I have seen it happen.

I have seen that happen when Chicago had the mini-break before South Holland took it over. That guy had to of been hitting 35-40 when that dolly unhooked. He turned the corner and the dolly went right into a row of new tires right next to the shop!!! CLASSIC!!! :TR10driving03:

I thought the 17 series were supposed to be permanently put out of service due to the new emission standards for tractors?
I know we got an extension to use them but I thought that passed.

Can someone confirm?

Up here with have at least 6 of them with a few rebuilts from HRS. Proud as punch to be running such distinct equipment. :TR10driving03:

Yuck. We have a few left also.
They are being used as emergency hostler's or for the shop mechanic to move trailers in and out of the shop.
I think with all the garbage trailers they need to duct tape in and out of the shop, they will get a million miles, just in the yard.

If I recall, we were told if we wanted them to be on the road, we had to retro-fit them with Catalytic convertors to meet the newer emissions standards.
I think this is the last year for the extension.

I have pulled quite a few brand new trailers (pups) the last two weeks. They are pretty nice. Whats that smell coming from the new trailers? Have they gone through some sort of oil bath to protect from corrosion? Its a pretty strong oil odor I have noticed from all new trailers.

we still have about 6 of the 17 series left and 2 18 series.....horrible trucks....still sittin on leaf springs, clutches way out of adjustment on all of them....they are junk

I remember when we first started getting those 17 series tractors, they were really nice tractors that replace the R model Macks we had with NO power steering, no power brakes, no stereo, no air conditioning, no cruise control, just a stripped down Mack, although those macks were very dependable. I remember having to keep an ice scraper for the insides of the windows in the winter time. The 17 series tractors was when we started getting spoiled.:biglaugh:

The A/C units by the cab wall were horrible.
I had to route some plastic gutter extensions to angle them toward me.
I'm not sure how well they worked when you guys first got them.

Out of all the tractors that I have seen the company buy through out all the years the 61-62 series Internationals were by far the worst junks I have ever driven. Before that were the cab over Macks we once had.

They were not that good as far as comfort control went but compared to what we had (no air conditioning) they seemed great.

The reason some of the drivers keep hooked to new dolly's is because they actually need working lights and mudflaps for the triples runs. Leave them on the dolly pad and good luck trying to get one on your next run. At least that's how it is at NBR. Most of the drivers don't need them but they do look cool going down the road with those bright new lights.

we stil have alot of 61s and 62s, JUNK

Yes, there seems to be an awfull lot of them still in the system. I get one for a loaner every time my tractor is down or not available. I wish they were all gone, I would honestly rather drive the 17, 18 series tractors. I would prefer the 11 series volvo's but have not seen any retired yet. I liked the 11 series volvo more than any tractor that we have had so far.

No washing for us in new York State.

we send the cleaning crew outside to wash the truck when its raining out. they get a scrub brush and an umbrella.
i guess we are tring to be green.

or was it cheap?

If we were to try and wash the trucks in the rain,we would be written up. Dirty is it. Screw (so-called) corp. image.

Getting rid of the 17 and 18 series? Their goes my terminals mainstay of our fleet. The company still has parts for these tractors, we got an 18 series that recieved a new hood proudly displaying the blue and grey, and have a 17 series recieve a new windshield. We still have some of the 19 series tractors, former American Freightways units that were stripped of the airshields and fairings, you can tell b/c the Amercian Freightways red is showing through on the wheels and dents on the tractor as the paint chips. We get the same loaner units as well, 61 and 62 series Internationals from the main hub in the region, sometimes they'll send a sleeper cab for kicks! I remember a Motor Cargo Cab Over International come through for about a week, it was a long way from home considering I work down south. We did luck out with a 61 series that had a cd player installed in it, me and another driver kept it hush-hush, while it was at our terminal. I agree the 11 series Volvos are really nice, we have one that came from a terminal up in Kentucky, that they claimed was high mileage, so now its assigned to us. As well we have another one as well, I've noticed not even all the 11 series have been rebranded yet.

The new trailers are nice, but compare them parked next to an "older" UPS Frieght branded pup, thats never seen a wash bay...what a difference!

i perfer the old overnite pups, only becase you can read the number from a distence. in the winter with the new ups pups the number is normally covered with snow and is so dam small on the sides that you have to walk up to them to see what the number is. i know ups is going for a clean look but it should be practical when you have to search a yard with over 200 trailers in it, you should be able to read them easily.
imho

as a yard jockey i agree but as a dockworker i dont (i do both)

the old overnites seem to be the easiest to find, but from the dock perspective they are the biggest pieces of junk with the worst wall skid panels, floors and no e track walls
