Yellow | US Freight Trucking Companies Circle Seeking An Opportunity

Is it just me, or does everyone shutter at the thought of a.......... "Merger"?

"they were anticipating a “major consolidation event” i.e. either the collapse of one of the big boys or a merger between one or more competitors."

Every time there is a merger,it seems it is always the working class come out on the bottom.. it is always job cuts or layoffs do more with less..Maybe it is time for the gov to step up and put back some regulations to stop the high discounts and maybe they could create jobs instead of losing them...

why would the government help the working class when the rich are the ones putting money into the back pockets of those that are being asked to protect the rest of us.
Most of the elected officials in our national government are rich Lawyers and or business owners that are supported by their rich friends not you and I the working class.

The thought from Old D is that one or more large companies "may" fail by springtime... They want to be prepared to pick up as much market share as possible.

As for what shippers "read" - this article was printed in a British trade journal - and gives a pretty shallow synopsis of the condition of LTL freight in the US.

I am a fan of reaching to the BBC for general unbiased world news - but not sure about knee jerking to anything in a trade journal not directly affiliated or impacted by the US economy.

Unions

Uncle Sam has to wake up and realize that this Country needs Unions. Unions cannot survive in the private sector here without Government support.

Look what unbridled Capitalism did to us now. Whithout Unions there is a drive to crush labor. Eventually you would be like China, working for a little food.

This is not capitalism.

And get used to working class always doing more for less. This system was designed to bankrupt the working class and turn them into default slaves. We are being conquered.

Any entity that requires government help to function is only prolonging the inevitable. Specially since government pays for nothing, they only take from one and give to another. They are running out of people to take from...

I don't understand how they can figure that this mess can be paid for by the taxpayer when MOST of us are making less then we did for the last 10 years. Do they think tax payer money grows on tree's? Tax the rich to feed the poor till the rich ain't rich no more. Where does that get us but to be subservient to the government? Useful idiots are we?

You`re exactly right. The democrats and republicans are stacking the deck against the working class. The biggest blow was NAFTA.Then the elected officials started subsidizing the costs for these companies to move out of the US with our tax dollars, taking most of our good paying manufacturing jobs with them. All this in exchange for big political contributions which are used to lie to us and get us to vote them in office over and over again. The worst part of it is,we keep electing the same people that keep screwing us again and again.I guess the stupid ones are we,the voters. The politicians want a working class under their control and a wealthy class.the middle class is disappearing fast.If anyone thinks Obama and the democrats are for the unions or the working class, think again. They are bullshit artists that have people believing them. What have they done for us?Nothing. The only time unions or the working class have any negiotiating power is when the unemployment rate is 5% or lower and there is a demand for workers. With all the manufacturing jobs that have gone overseas,I don`t think we`ll see that again for many years to come,if we ever see it again.

You took the type right out of my hands. 10-4 better words was never typed.

And by the way I would like to quench my ignorance with this question, What "Merger" does this article speak of? Do we have an inkling? I get the impression it is not yellow, Congdon would have commented I am sure.

holding the bag

It will be a shame for ODFL when they are left holding all that extra equipment because the company or companies they are betting on failing instead succeed. Who will be consolidating then ODFL? :shift:

WD, check the stock market prices from Friday. YRCW, $1.14. ODFL, $28.25. We'll have to wait and see.

All Freight companies have been under bidding YRCW even if not making a profit in return in the hopes of Shutting YRCW down. Most Freight Companies did not anticipate YRCW to be around this late in the game and are now stuck with freight that is putting them too in the negative.

The stock price of ODFL and the other major players have been bidded up on the expectation of a YRC collapse and will be coming down like going south
OK, so you already know this
