Just curious, who has some good stories to share on "GOOD" ideas, or decisions that backfired on the "manage"ment team.......as we all know they decide, THEN think whether or not it was a good idea only after it falters!!

How about fat beard's logic of hiring drivers until a service center can get their overtime percentage down. That worked well didn't it? All the expense of pre-hiring physicals and drug tests only to be over-staffed and create economic terminations, wink, wink. Oh, what about telling the hourly workforce to be expected to work a minimum of 10 hours per day. No O/r rationale here is there? I'm sure there is much more from the fat beard follies just can't pinpoint them right now because there were so many. OOOOOh, how about the thread "Five seconds until termination" created specifically to bring awareness to the KRONOS punch time requirements that were a little harsh and unrealistic. This is really quite entertaining!

Pretty much everything they have done in the last five years has backfired.

We were doing very well until the bean counters started ruling the roost.

Since their advent things have progressively went downhill.

One piece at a time...eliminating benefits...job security...and at the expense of committment a lower overall morale.

The 'surveys' gave them a wake up call. Things are not as good in wonderland as they would like to have thought.

We have been determined to be an expense to be modified at will. Wages and benefits are normally the largest expense any company must face. The caveat though is this expense has in its description job expertise...knowledge... and excellence that is garnered by experience.

These things do not seem to have been factored into the equation...why???...I really don't know!

Wow Rat, Im surprised! That was a short reply.

Sorry Dodge...I'll try to do better next time! LOL!!!

The LSS program, the horizontal communication program, the ICE program, the OMS program, and the nauseating Nascar fiasco makes me wonder...

Is anybody actually running this dog and pony show?

Or are we hoping to 'program' ourselves into profitability?

Maybe I need to reference the 'policy manual' to discover the truth...Oh Wait!...we don't have one of those..my bad!!!

They just bounce the numbers around to make it look like they work. What about all of the money they spent on that ISO garbage that we don't hear about anymore. Oh yea, what about that Blackbelt junk? What was it? Lean Sigma 6? I haven't seen anyone use Karate to load a trailer yet.

I think the one that is backfiring the most right now is the "college grad" program. You have some out there that are doing a good job, but most of those kids have a little common sense. The rest of them are clueless as to what the trucking industry is all about. Just because you have a college degree, doesnt mean you can run this "dog and pony show". I would rather talk to an ex-driver that has a clue as to what I am talking about, than some young kid that doesnt have a clue. Lets go back to hiring within, it works alot better. That is my opinion, I could be wrong.

They stopped making drivers supervisors at my barn because most DSR's quit the FOS job and go back to driving. FOS all come from the outside now.

Yes, I agree!! We have a college edumacated management trainee program FOS at our barn. (Some of you in the area might know who i'm referring to!!) What a dope!!! He came in knowing nothing about freight handling. He worked at another company handling packages or something and thinks he is gonna change the freight moving world!!! :biglaugh::biglaugh: I will do anything to not deal with him.

Twice in the past 9 yrs i've inquired about FOS openings and aside from being a glorified babysitter, the biggest drawback is the pay!! They don't pay these people anything. It woulda been a 35K/yr pay cut for me. I don't think so!!! You would think a company would jump all over the opportunity to hire a driver who is interested in management since they already know the company, freight, drivers, system....everything they would have to train a new monkey to do, the driver already knows!!!!:icon_dance::icon_dance: And to pay them a reasonable salary for their knowledge and experience!! Oh well, i'm in a better place outside of the office I guess. Alot less responsibilities and stress:hyper:

If they promote drivers they won't be able to push all these wonderful programs. When your managers look at your new program and says been there done that and it didn't work what's a middle manager to do to prove he's needed!
The college boys at the very top don't know so they don't want anyone down the food chain pointing out they have no clothes.

Very good from everybody so far. I'm gonna take a stab at it. What about the terminal closures of places that at the time had "the highest numbers in their region". Only to hear from drivers that transfered to the SIC that covers the area in question. That they are leaving behind just as much freight as they pick up. Then to have customers tell them the next day that they call to get us to pick up more and they are told that we cant get it because all of the equipment in the area is full and we won't be back until tomarrow........does this qualify for this thread or do i just need to keep it to my self:stirthepot::biglaugh::biglaugh:

I agree and know what your talking about. I was a driver at a terminal with some of the best numbers in the region, which was closed and drivers made to transfer. Yes, there are days we cant service our old core customer base like we used to. Yes, we have lost major accounts because of this "good idea".
