ABF | Now what do you think about ABF consessions

concessions

Shareholders of Arkansas Best Corp. of Fort Smith will elect three directors at the company's annual meeting April 22 and vote on a proposal to raise maximum executive pay from $1 million to $3 million annually. Should we vote for concessions while they vote to increase executive's top pay by 200%. How stupid do they think we are .

Of course even by yrc. they have a big cost advantage over ABF just like all the other ltl carriers
ABF= American Bull Frog always finds a way to jump back into action. Their just a little ill from eating that last fly. Kind of reminds me of the Warner Brothers Cartoon "The Singing Bull-Frog." The bull-frog will singing and dancing once again, just not while everyone is watching it at the same time.
ERRRR-----RRRRROOOOOBBBBBIIITTTT!

you have a major chip. I have been layed off for 15 months, not your 8 but I still believe that ABF is where I want to be. I am sorry if you are feeling rough times but to slam everyone you have worked with is not the way, Most of the guys that I know have had to struggle at some point of their senority. That is just how it is. Just like my kids they want the same house that I worked years to get. Grow up

What union ? The letter sent from the teamsters to inform the rank and file of Abf's woes; included a bold letterhead in Abf green. There's something wrong with this picture. Just my opinion.

To stop ALL the BULL____. Trucking must go back to regulated trucking. That's how all this got started. There were those years ago when it deregulated that said this would happen, no body listened. Well here you have it. There wouldn't be any 90% discounts. Australia tried it years ago, they stopped deregulation after only 6 years because what it was doing to their trucking industry.

First off yes every one needs a job but everyone claims that A B F is such a great truck line [ until now ] as far as I 'am concerned I never could see their point #1 they have a fleet of pups with swing doors aggravating the driver with all that in and out at every stop also a safety issue they had a driver in Chicago when it was still Carolina was killed when he was closing the doors a car rear ended the trailer and kill the driver ,chancing to tear one off pulling out of a stop #2 having to measure all that freight and entering it in that hand held computer #3 Whats up with this light assembly ? you get to a stop then you Carrie the freight in then unbox it and put together for the guy have the time ya don't know what the hell your doing . Now ya see how they loose money? I will believe the CEO when he lowers his compensation to what a driver earns then I'll believe their in trouble . When they cut your pay and give themselves a raise with your money that's thievery .

Im a yrc driver.just an opinion.I read that there are roughly 12000 employees at abf.is that number correct?if so,I dont see how paycuts would help.after experiencing paycuts here at yrc.if I was working for abf.id want to see paycuts start at the top first.if these so called corp leaders take a paycut first.then I would feel like they are trying to keep the doors open.instead of taking advantage of the recession.maybe ian off.but if a vote takes place.be sure to have all elgible vote.unreturned ballots are counted as yes votes.

Increase executive pay by 200%,ask for a pay cut from the workers, what in the hell is wrong with this picture ?and before you" I'll work ay any cost "guys jump in , you know it isn't right, actually it's a damn slap in the face and a kick to the b :o :o :o :o to even ask

well someone already clarified, they haven't raised anyone's pay by 200%, they just made it possible for a base salary to be over $1mill, which in my opinion is a precursor to them expecting bonuses to be much less so they feel to keep their executives they're gonna have to pay more. That's just my opinion though :)

I'm gonna preface my next comment with the statement that I'm not a driver, I'm a GO employee, not management, and non-contractual. That being said, there has been a bonus/promotion/raise/whatever ban for the last couple years, all non-contractual employees have lost 401k deposits and benefits cost has been increased while decreasing quality of benefits. Over the last few years we HAVE been sacrificing. I'm not speaking for upper management, but I do feel I've done my part to help the bottom line. I get a little perturbed at all this "equal sacrifice" business, as I've BEEN sacrificing. I make probably 12% to 15% less now than I would be had these sacrifices not been made.

I'm only stating this to make people realize that while yes, a couple ultra-high-level promotions were made that came with raises, by and large, noone in the GO has had a raise or promotion in going on 3 years, no bonuses since 2006, increased costs and decreased benefits, while everything has been status quo for the contractual employees.

I'm interested to hear the details of the managements request for give-backs... exact figures, not "vacation, pension, and salary"... what %, etc.

Honestly, I think they threw the "vacation cap" thing in there to give the union management something to reject to make you guys feel better about taking pay cuts. Easier to not feel bad about giving up 1 of 3 things as opposed to 2 of 3 :)

I have to wonder if there are any christian men left that are running these large company's trucking or others wise .I can't judge them but I got to tell ya this can't be the way christian men would do business.

you guys all sound like management

look at it for what it is
ABF shakes the proverbial tree to see what they can get and you guys all get scared ********

don't you think they are painting a picture that is in reality not as bad? after all they are holding the paintbrushes

the IBT said no initially to their asking for relief because ABF was profitable
so what does ABF do to get the IBT to consider....
they readjust their bottom line accordingly
the companies usually do this around contract time, remember!
in a way it's like contract time for them
so what is happening is ABF asks for the moon
(pension, fringe and pay concessions)and will settle for a few of the crumbs
either way the company cannot lose
