A regional manager guy was at our barn Monday.... I don't know if this was a freudian slip but they (The Magic Kingdumb) are toying with the idea to stop paying overtime... Straight time for everyone?

I will state this... Chances are that this will get flagged..

Management does more for unions than unions do for themselves.

All they are looking at is the amount of money they would save. They don't care about you or your time. All Con-Way cares about is money, their money. You are not a concern. You are replaceable. In this economy its easy to hire people.

there has to be a balance between home and work or you or the company will not survive

Why not? And why would anyone think our leaders would not enhance our OT. Maybe they will dangle some other temporary bone in our face.

What will be fun to watch are the koolaid drinkers on here that are going to tell us what a great idea straight time is. This new initiative will save us million$ and it will make us more competitive. L/H drivers won't care.

Think about it. If a city guy works 10 OT hours and gets $100/wk in extra 1/2 time,* that's $5000/yr gross.....Drop In The Bucket! Yup, that's nothing compared to the rest of the take aways over the years.

Start dreaming of all of the extra hours we will get when they no longer worry about OT pay.

So why not take a little more?

*Forget the straight time - you were going to get that anyways.

What's next?

Could you have misunderstood what he said? I mean, they talk about doing away with overtime out here in the past and what they mean is to cut everyone back to 8 hrs. In Cali they have to pay overtime after 8. This is not a company decision.

He brought up the fact that OD and Estes does not pay overtime. Straight
time only.

Nothing would surprise me at this point.

After the things we have had to suffer through in the last several years at the hands of the 'survivalist's' management style and their collective misunderstanding of what it takes to operate and maintain some semblance of an employee conducive workplace...I can believe it has been discussed.

However I doubt it will fly...at least not in the forseeable future...

With that being said...I can see it being an edict for new hires...the job title being changed from DSR to God only knows what to delineate and segregate the two (and very different) pay structures...

Hire on after a certain date and no OT!...and they will be so informed prior to accepting the position.

Hell!!!...who knows they may bastardize the entire pay structure for new people and change the progression from what is now the 'norm' to an entirely different scenario...but all this is just conjecture at this point...

We are an aging workforce and Ann Arbor knows this...many people will be leaving the company in the next several years...people who have been around since the beginning or shortly thereafter...the people who knew what this company purported themselves to be (or wanted to be...at least at the outset!)...once the 'Detter' folks are gone...there will be nothing left for comparison to the 'early' days....

Then it will become a benign non-descript faceless entitiy utilizing people as mere tools...readily wiling to discard them at will...

The 'Dream' will officially be dead...if is isn't already!!!!

this ain't hard to figure. at our place o t is a blank check. never enough help . this would right up their alley, never hire anyone just run everybody to death. could be run alot more efficent if it were not for the fact that we are a training ground for the rah-rah wannabes. by the time that we the drivers show them how to operate efficently, they get all the cudos and are promoted. then it starts all over again. you are right rat, the dream started to dissapear about a year after Jerry left and the nightmare began. we have had 8 TERM. MGRS in the last 18 yrs.
