With alot of the rumors and selected terminals going to 70 hours, I would like to hear some opinions about it. Do you want to do it. Most of all, do you think it is really safe for you and or the motoring public?

I for one think that it would be crazy. what they have now is too much considering the pace and stress that is implemented daily, why add insult to injury. As far as i am concerned they are pushing over the limit now.Of course you are going to have the ones that would work 100 hrs a week if they could.
In all actuality they could cut alot of hours and pay more to their core people and still be a major player in the industry. Its all about greed and it is not geared to the people that make this work day in and day out. If they would get rid of the :buttkisser: and listen to what their dedicated hard working people have to contribute it would benefit everyone in the long run. (Thats my opinion)

It is not an issue out here in the west. We have been on 70 hour with a 34 hour reset. I works out nice. Gives you a little more flexibility and not always running on the edge. I like it better. As long as you never go over 14 hours, you never have to worry about having problems with your hours. I don't want to work that hard but where I run sometimes weather becomes a big factor and a few days after some crap I don't want to have to be juggling hours. Just me but I am happy to have gone to the 70hr. rule.

Its allways been 70hrs out here on the left coast and it works out pretty good. It gives you plenty of hours to do your run all week long. I run 512 to 540 miles every day and I need all the hours.

we have been on the 70 hr log in kc for one month now and it works out great. No pressure form having to get back by a certain time and watching hours of service for the next night. we are no where near using 70 hours but it is there if we need it. (heck I would love to run sat night every other week if they would let me!!)

Keep the wheels on the down side!!

See, the 70hr. log is okay. For those that were upset of the thought , the 70hr. log takes the pressure off.

ummmm.... unless your working 5 14 hour days in a row. ( which is what we were doing before going back to the 60 hr week.) Canada I might add.

My $.02...We have guys looking like zombies here now on a 60 hour log. I can't see a 70 hour log helping safety or productivity.
Yea I know and the way they will force in the central area it's going to be bad. leave the reship at 5:30 am to do a 80 ro 100 mile extra via. "Are you refusing to work?" Hell they do it now with 60 hours.

was told personally by h r that the michigan region is not going to 70 hours with the exception of xcd and xgy beacuse they have no short runs.

With all of the Via's and it takes so long to get off of the dock to even do the Via's I think it would be good. The way it is now I am loosing money over having to run short one night or having to set at home over just a couple of hours.

That's what I have been saying. It takes all the worry out of whether or not you will have hours to run. Never having to push it, being in control. I am a lot happier with the 70hr thing.

My position hasn't changed. They (Con-Way) want to scream and yell about safety. I don't see what is safe about letting someone or giving someone the ability to work and drive 70 hours in 5 days. It is a recipe for disaster. I don't care if some parts of the company has been doing it for X amount of time. All it takes is 1 mistake, either yours or someone Else's and your judgment and your reflexes are slow because you are tired. It's not worth it.

Passing on the greed to the drivers. In the Central region, all it is going to do is make for late freight back to the service centers because people have more hours to suck the clock. Reships will close later as the week goes. 4 hour delay on Fridays. City operation delayed too much from late inbound from reships.

All I can say is there are a lot of Con-Way Drivers that wouldn't last in the Trucking Industry the way it was years ago. I don't care if it's a 60 hour week or 70 hour week , this is nothing compaired to the way it was years ago. Except for the way we are treated by XGO this job is easy . Some of you people just wouldn't last. Just like our great :nono: Leaders has changed since the good olo days of Uncle Jerry , so have our drivers.
That would be a managing/supervision problem/issue. If people are "sucking the clock" that's because they are being allowed to. It has nothing to do with a 70 hour week.

Well ya can't drive past your 14th, so with lunch and breaks you're down to 13. The government doesn't offer a 65 hour rule so what are ya going to do? Continue forcing guys out of their bids to run long to cover the runs? Force guys to run short or not run at all to work with hours available? Plant some seeds and add a little water and boom... an extra driver or two just when ya need them? The only terminals going to 70 hour logs are the ones with run criteria having problems within the 60 hour rule. The freight gets back earlier when your not running out to pick guys up. As stated earlier, it makes things easier to manage on the part of the driver.

No one is forcing anyone to do anything... heck on your last day you can even stop for a beer or two, ah, or three, or four, or five, or six, or seven, or eight, or nine...

Mr. Merdock;
In the past we haven't seen eye to eye on very many things but we do on this one. At our Terminal we are having problems with our longer runs and Via's . Come Thursday night some of us will have to either run short or not run at all.NOW when everything come out in the wash our best runs are now paying no more than the rest. The Junior Drivers like it because they get to make our ( Senior Drivers) runs . Some might say this is greed but I say it's called Seniority. Take away our Seniority and everyone is the same. When that happens it's called Socialism
