Hey there, just a question about the proper placement of ULD's( Igloos) on A-4 trailers. Is there any regulations regarding the proper weight distribution of these type of trailers, or any website i can inquire about this? I've tried the fed. motor carrier website, along with D.O.T, and to avail. (F.A.A was also a bust) in the past, the ramp loaders were to place the laoded cans in first, so the driver was to have weight on their drive axle, but lately, they seem to be placing empty cans on first ,then the loaded ones. Any help would be appriciated, Thanks.

Rule of thumb is loaded cans first. Some building require cans in certain positons to unload but it has always been (Logan, BDLAP and PVD) loaded first, mt's on rear. Loaders only do what there told, I'd complain to sup or platfom sup or express your concerns to saftey dept or commitee. Fed regs require certain axle weights not be exceeded and nothing governs how a trailer is loaded or where empty spaces should or shouldn't be.
Seeing that they know and you can find out the weight of the cans, you could make and argument that the trailer load is being distrubuted unevenly as per axle weight and making driving control difficult or unsafe. I have found that air loads are heavier than ground loads and this could deffinatilty be a legit complaint.

But keep in mind a A4 or A5 is a very heavy trailer even when empty. Sometimes you may think you don't have enough on you drive when you actually do.
