A new culture started within the teamster ranks about 20 years ago.At least that`s when I started to notice it. I saw drivers calling in to try and arrange the trips they wanted and becoming overly friendly with dispatchers and other management personel, to enhance their own paychecks, and in doing that were screwing other teamsters.
[move]"I agree 100% with you on this, management wasn't my friend when they hired me and they damn sure aren't my friend now" :chairshot:[/move]
Too many times you see guys tearing down the contract trying to benefit themselves
My decision to come to work here was based on there being a contract in place. I believe in the "fair days work for a fair days pay" statement that is in the contract. I never signed anything stating that if the management screws me, I will just sit there and take it. I try to follow the contract to the letter, and I expect them to do the same. I didn't come here to make friends, I came here to make a living. Over the years, I have watched the deterioration of the "brotherhood", all in the name of greed. We watch side deals get made with management everyday that usually cost the company money, which I think is shameful. We watch employees enter the building through the management office doors each day, instead of the employee entrance. I wonder what happens during their trip through the office? But, to each their own. Those of you who do this have to sleep with yourself each night. It also is a sign of weak management. They need to get their ego stroked each day, to make them feel high and mighty. Well, stroking their ego is another thing that I never agreed upon when I applied here. I came here to do a job, so I do what I get paid to do. They don't care for me either, but it's not because of my work ethic, it's because I expect them to follow the contract, just like I do.

Sorry for the rant.

I had heard Rockford had the same deal and guys filed on it and won to be fully covered if you work one day.
Anybody know about this?

It amazes how greedy union brothers can file grievances on their laid-off union brothers for working on Sundays due to the fact that the greedy bastards prefer to work a 7th punch on Sunday than allowing a laid-off brother to work a lousy one day to have his insurance for the week.
At my barn the laid off guys filed that they were working sixth and seventh punches ahead of us. When it went to committee a Houston local had the exact opposite, senior men were filing on laid off guys for working ahead of a sixth or seventh punch. Both grievances were lost. The committee ruled that it was the company's prerogative to work either laid off ahead of sixth and seventh punches or vise versa, they can do what ever they want. this just means the sups are low life blood suckers for not working a laid off guy so he can have insurance for his family.

On an additional note, the layoffs went high enough at my barn to catch a few SENIOR men that would work OT and send a laid off guy home. When the same was done to them they cried louder than anyone, but when they got put back on they went right back to their old ways.

Also, when you guys say this is a pos union you are talking about yourselves, we are the union. What it "is" is what we have let it become. Want to change the union? Start with yourself.
You just said and proved it with what you said! Its the biggest pos union to have ever walked the face of the Earth! You grieved it and you lost proving again no matter what the members do to right things that the "pos" union is in bed with the pos company. Any pos union that would allow 6 and 7 punches while guys are on layoff just proves the point. I still like the guy that the pos union got fired for supposedly running against them and the pos local ended up from what I understand(very good source)paying 150 grand after settling out of federal racketeering court. Of course they admitted no wrong doing. The guy also got his job and all back pay and benefits back. Stank-in pos union!

Sounds like Local 200

When we combined last spring I argued with many a senior man about not working the 6 and 7 punches but then I come in on a Friday or Saturday and the laid off guys are working 6 and 7 so what am I arguing for? I left a lot of money on the table by not working and these guys are doing the same thing they are complaining about.

The teamster union is not a brotherhood anymore. The Union leadership is more like a money making business and the members, for the most part, are for themselves and no one else. Too bad it`s come to this point, but that`s where it`s at now. These companies have been trying to pit one worker against the other for years now using every trick in the book including greed, and too many are willing to go along with it and now we see the results.

I would argue there is a distinction between those who have been making "regular" pay without a break and those who have been on unemployment and are trying to recover financially.
I'm with you on that thought. But, I think that it's safe to say that the "hog board" couldn't give a ::shit:: about them getting caught back up financially. (or if they are even working for that matter.)

Welcome to the Mester's Union. :tribe:

In Central States if you have individual coverage 1 day gets you medical insurance under the 'S' Plan. No dental or vision and it has a higher deductible but if you work 1 day you can at least go to the doctor and your prescription card gets turned on. You just have to make sure your dr appt or prescription is turned in on a week when you work. Full coverage and family coverage does require you work 3 days.

Speaking of greed we had a dock hand that got 40 hrs of OT a few weeks ago. Utterly disgusting. Just another one of the many Me-sters.

So was there any 5th wheel grease placed under that Me-ster's car-door handle?
I like the way you're thinking! Or grease on the steering wheel, shifter, turn signal, a little on the seat for good measure and depending who it is plenty of grease on the back of the trailer door handle, even better if its a swing door with 4 latches. :biglaugh:

I understand about recovering but some of them at that point had hardly missed any time.
