i am the wife of a devoted teamster. we have been through the mess with carolina....cf...and now this. i do believe that we are at a different place in time this time around, the situation is much different. yes i do believe that some poor choices have been made with yrc and abf is probably paying for that with the cut throat price game.ibt has helped yrc to the point that they haul freight at prices abf cant compete. no company can last in a setting like that without some sort of concession. i do see the management pay increases posted for abf management...poor timing on their part. realistically i would want a pay increase with a promotion (not sure who wouldnt) but i think its the wrong time for pay increases on mgmt when they are asking for help from employees. i too am not looking forward to a decrease in pay for our family BUT i also am so very thankful and blessed and hope to continue in saying that my husband has a job...and benefits to take care of us. there are many people in this economy that have taken pay cuts NOT just teamsters. at this point i will continue to pray for the company and the employees and that people will make wise business minded decisions and not just vote one way or the other without thinking of the end result. and that is being able to take care of your families.

This is why ABF sent out the dvd.It probably has a chance to get the spouse to vote. I see the end is near to the good wages if this goes through. The working man and woman will be eat up by inflation in the next few years and ABF employee's will really pay for it on the east and west coast as prices are higher.

On some points I have to agree. The people screaming the loudest are still working. What if your UI has been cut to less than $1000 a month. So maybe the people still working might have to give up a shopping trip to the mall once in a while.
On the flip side I have a really hard time going backwards in wages almost 10 years. My property taxes, light bill and car insurance isn't going down

Why do people want to put the blame om YRC for ABF asking for pay concessions, I would be willing to bet that if YRC closed last december ABF

Seems like just yesterday when USF-wife put in her two cents with her first post. Vote your conscience guys, dont let management influence it!

ABF -wife sure knows a lot about freight pricing and bonuses???? maybe her name is MRS. Kemp... I'm voting NO

just curious do you fill out the bid for your husband too??? cause it sounds like he has no voice in this matter or any other

if you want to vote yes thats entirely your choice (obviously its not your husbands choice) but instead of voting yes why dont you just write a check to abf for $7000.00 and then write another one next year and another one the year after.

abf is not hurting they had 10 PROFITABLE YEARS and 1 bad year--- well gee who didnt have 1 bad year?????

abf isnt stupid they are going to rebound from this and they know it and they will be making major profits again but will we be able to re-open the contract and say we want a slice of the pie??? hell no we wont---- VOTE NO

and if you have been down this road before ( like many of us have) then YOU of all people should know that regardless of a concession if the company is going down its going down no matter what we do --- a concession only makes the fat cats fatter

I can't believe what I'm hearing! Wake up!Even if you believe that ABF is hurting(it isn't) , then realize this. If the economy turns around next month and ABF starts running at a 94 again, guess what, we will still be locked in on our pay cut for 3 years!!!!!!!

ABF-Wife[sup].......AMEN[/sup] I am so glad you posted. I have read all and listened to the DVD we received regarding this entire ABF issue. I believe this company will get very ugly if this falls thru. People are not being realistic on here at all. While it's true no one at any job wants to take a wage loss, unfortunately, the economy has pushed many companies into a hole over the last 2 years (including mine!). I vision many people laid off. If your accounts payable are up and your receivables are down...it's time to cut something; wages are the first place. Seventy five million a year still probably won't be an instant fix but it would certainly help. I just don't get what these people expect this company to do. You can't pull money out of your.....well you get the idea.

Time and time again, I hear women complain that their pay scale is not up to a mans for the same job title. Now, I can actually see why!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Feisty, One question for you. You were very skeptical about the honesty and integrity of all of this in the beginning and all of a sudden you believe that DVD as fact and reliable. How come?
Here is your post:
" Ok, long time lurker here. My spouse works for ABF, my background is accounting.

How can you have independent auditors come in and go completely over your books when you are a company the size of ABF, in less than 4 days? I've worked with auditors before due to my job, this would take way more than just a mere 4 days, believe me.

They could not have made a sensible decision in this short amount of time. The whole thing is very puzzling. "

LOL...No,It just made me realize that I underestimated ABF. I thought that they made a stupid move and just wasted all that money to send out those DVD's to everybody. Now I see why, to get the wives to watch it. Need I say any more.men?

[/quote] My question to you Ms. Feisty. When Kemp & Mcreynolds were "promoted" this past Jan having already on 3 past occassions having gone to the IBT with their concession request why didn't they sent the tone for the company?? Why didn't they say i am on honored by this promotion & I believe this company faces tough times so I will put my raise on hold until we as a company are profitable again. I believe in this company & it's people & I will lead the cause b/c I will not ask someone to do what I won't. they had the chance to really stand up & be leaders of people & commerce. My guess at what they were making they were able to make ends meet. BUT THEY DIDN'T THEY TOOK THE MONEY, THE STOCKS & THE DIVIDENS PAID LAST THURSDAY !! IF WE WERE IN THE SHAPE THEY CLAIM THEY WOULD BE GIVING BACK AS WELL TO HAVE THEIR OWN JOB SECURITY PLAN!! AGAIN THEY WANT US TO KISS THE RING OF THE CORPORATE KINGS & QUEENS & BE GRATEFUL FOR THE CRUMBS THEY GIVE US . THEY STILL HAVE A CHANCE TO DO IT BUT THEY HAVEN'T AND THEY WON'T!!!!
