FedEx Freight | New rule??

I'll leave this one alone because I'll do what I have to do to protect my CDL and CSA score and you drivers do what you got to do ok.There may not be a clause and you all think it can't happen to you but as soon as it does the first thing they will say is why are you out there. And we haven't been talking about spurts of snow. We all drive on that. Well I'll say most of us but when its a major snow storm and you take the risk don't come here a play super trucker then cry when they fire you. Just a little thought you are gambling on your family and a life worth of work when you take a stupid risk to prove what. There will be a blood thirsty lawyer waiting for that moment and every one of us has been out here at times and said to yourself I should of stayed home.5 to 6 days a winter at the house isn't going to break the bank but one bad wreck will last a LIFE TIME.

Better watch those attendance points you are accumulating Gator!! If FedEx doesn't trying to fire you one way, there are others.

what makes you so affraid of attendence points, one of the reason's they have them is for you to use your judgement(not linehauls managers/dispathers)to protect your job, freight equipment and public safety.

You guys are a bunch of mamby pamby puss truck... wait, steering wheel holders. I can't believe you idiots actually call yourselves truck drivers. Grab your nuts and drive the truck. Last time i checked, FedEx ordered these trucks with a heater. Dry your vagina and get back in the game.

Well Gator, this is my first post in a long time ,but I have to agree, especially after the clarification meeting with the regional safety guy friday. He made it very clear, one "serious" accident ( rollover, rearend collision etc.) you are gone and there are very few exceptions. He also said and made it very clear that The driver has the final call on safety related matters, not central dispatch, not maintnance or your manager, so you will be held responsible! He said the policy has always been there, which it has, they are now going to enforce it very strictly. Reasons being, well you will hear many, all I know is I run west across North Dakota, so I am taking this one serious. Everytime i get out there now and encounter extreme conditions, its going to be very hard to push the envelope like years past

Yes transplant this has got to be the waive of the future and we as drivers need to adhere to this to the letter and Fedex will have to abide by it. If more drivers would say not doing it going home but there will be many as you see on this board will go and continue to risk it.CSA2010 is the new rule and they will figure it out soon enough. And welcome back and good luck to you in the Dakotas.

I will still go, I always have , but even i would have to admit that there were times I knew I should have stopped and that it was not all skill that got me back, luck had to of had some play in there, and I am not willing to gamble with luck any more, so when that feeling were skill seems to be leaving and luck is showing up , thats when I will find my safe haven and call her a day. I am not willing to throw 15 years away when they are going to weather code it anyway as they have done many times. Its always nice to bust your butt getting back in bad weather just to have them code because the weather is to bad to move it any further. (oh that pisses me off)

Its the not having anywhere to park here in the midwest that worries me. Rest areas fill fast that the states haven't closed yet. Truckstops can't accommodate doubles and the motels are far and in between that have truck parking. So your left to truck on and thats not good. And like you said and I said earlier, the freight is already weather delayed. But I will say good luck to you and all of us and what life throws at us.

yeah we have the same problem up here, not only is everything full but you may have to go 30- 50 miles to even find anything and I to wish you and every one else good luck because times , they are a changing hands

We have a guy here that dropped a back trailer a couple years ago. Now every time it looks like snow he takes off. After Wed night Thur morn coming back I'm not so sure I blame him. It got a little scary. I lost traction several times. Might think about it too next time. Bad thing is when it's fine when you start out and you get stuck out there. Afraid to pull off on a ramp and scared to go on.

What's nice is when they send a daytime driver on his meet n turn down south in a snow storm, and he calls his meet driver, and he tells him, they told us to stay on the couch, it's to bad to try to get out, but yet our drivers are expected to drive through it to get to there center when the freight has already been weather delayed anyway. Nothing like putting drivers out there for no apparent reason, now that's safety first. (NOT)

No thats a greedy manager only worried about his numbers and not your welfare.Once its out the gate it isn't his problem anymore.

That's Harrison making the call, and as much as drivers don't get it, they could care less about our welfare, as long as that freight gets moved.

We had a situation a couple years back when the boss at our barn knew, because he already had some drivers stopped on the freeway due to snow and ice, that the guys he was sending out could not get more than 15 miles from our yard. The interstate was totally shut down for 40 miles with ice and vehicles. When I told him he was crazy for sending them, his quote to me was "sometimes you have to make an educated guess as to whether or not you can get thru." I asked how much education you needed to have when you knew the road was already closed and you send them anyway. His answer was at least they would be in line when the road opened. When it did they were all out of time to drive. He had them out the gate so it was not his problem. He went home at quitting time knowing that if anyone asked about their freight, the proper answer was "it is in route"

I don't want to be part of this "new world". Is that the attitude your truck driving school taught you? My dad raised me to have pride in what I do and do it to the best of my ability. No where in this upbringing did he tell me to wuss out because the weather is too bad.

My dad taught me the same thing, but that was then, this is now. Let's see how well it works out for ya when you get in one weather related accident and they tell you, your services are no longer needed. You gung ho billy big riggers will figure that out when you're sitting home on the couch looking for a job???

Closing in on 3million safe miles and like to keep it that way. Not a wuss as you call it. Just changing with the times my friend. If you are a driver you would now this industry throws a curve around every 5 years and you either adapt or you will work your way out of this business.
