Back when I worked in Central Dispatch, I about had a dispatcher in tears one night. A team hit the Quaalcom with an arrival message at his terminal (in NJ, I think...I think his name was Lenny). The dispatcher called me to suggest (tell, not ask) that he could send the team somewhere with a load. I asked how long would it take to get the load ready. The reply was 4 to 5 hours so I told him that if I did not see a gate departure on the Quaalcom within 2 hours, he needed to cut them loose back toward WIL with empties. At the 1:45 mark, I called to let him know time was ticking and he lost his temper, yelling that if he had more time he could send them loaded. I calmly told him that in 16 minutes, I would dispatch them myself if he would not (I had told the team to scout empties when they got there, just in case). A little after the deadline, I got their gate departure and the team called (laughing) to say that I had just made an enemy. The way I look at it is this: if a terminal could not get a load together in a reasonable amount of time (2 hours max...barring unusual circumstances), Central could use the team somewhere else. I felt bad for most of the teams while I was there. I saw a lot teams delayed for no reason, causing service failures. I hope you guys all get working again, making money and rolling miles.
