If this has been talked about before, sorry, I have not been around for a while, or maybe someone can direct me to the topic area. Any one out there having trouble with wheel spin on any wet roads with the new volvo or kw tractors? They have come to west texas with Bridgestone tires and on wet roads they both want to fishtail all of a sudden. Not here to whine or anything, but i paid the price yesterday while driving on a wet road, doing 55 mph. So without more details guess I will enjoy my 3 day vacation. "nuff said. thanks for any info.

Are the tires supersingles or the standard ones? We had trouble with the supersingles and changed back to duals...no more problems.

Little buddy, Dont you know supersingles will hydroplane way before duals will, less lbs per sq inch. Management knows it but wont admit it .You took the fall for it, just dont forget.
Don't think the super single question got answered.

IND region has complained for along time about them. I'm guessing your talking about the Michelin tires. There was supposed to be a vp of safety and a guy from Michelin come to our center because of all the complaints finally got heard by the right person, but I don't think they have come yet. The tires can't handle the torque put to them becuse the sidewalls are to stiff.

these tires are not super single. made by bridgestone. as far as i know all the incidents are on virgin rubber not recaps. hope this answered some of the other questions. i know the caps we have been seeing out here may have bridgestone side walls, but michelen caps. cant think of any incidents with them so far. the torque part of a previous reply was what our safety rep mentioned the other day too. hope this helps

Go to page 6 and look for the thread that talks about the XDA-5 tires we are running at IND. That might answer some questions.

yes I have been having trouble too. If you look at them there is no groove for the water to excape. poor design!!

The no groove your talking about is called "closed shoulder" I'm of the opinion closed shoulder caps and new tires SUCK for wet weather driving, I'm not sure why they design them that way!

I had a new T660 do that to me 60mph and they spun and I was sideways in an instant. I drive a Super Single drive tire Volvo and the closed shoulder tires on this T660 were HORRIBLE in the rain, much much worse than the SS.

I like my Super Singles though, especially the new ones we got with the rain sipings in the treadblocks, I prefer them over the dual equipped.

The folks that don't drive have made the decision to start using "closed shoulder" drive tires exclusively. We (maintenance dept) received a email about it about 3 weeks ago. Yes, they do suck from what my drivers have told me. They spin out in the rain on steep pulls and have to chain up with only a skiff of snow on the road. Better learn to like them

they better get ready for tow bills **** on it they will pay for there crappy decision.never seen an company gotta go in the bad weather but so ill equiped to get it done in our part of the country anyways no chains.Just another benefit of a big company educated idiots making decisions about something they know nothing about.go ahead say it "if you dont like it here go someplace else " I dont care just might do that the money isnt everything and the equipment here shure isnt nothing to brag about at all like I said probably just our part of the country......who knows
Get ready our T660 wasnt 2 months old when all the snow hit the nite road man was towed at least 4 times over the winter by a wrecker. I got stuck on a slight slope in a customers otherwise flat lot had to chain to go 6 feet to the main road. They are scary in the rain by far the worst tires I have ever ran. The bald recaps we ran on our coal buckets went better than these things.

well one thing about it I will be dealing with the recap version because we wont see anything that new at our center....

One thing that's great about this forum....besides the ability to share information such as crappy tire choices by those that don't drive, but it's also a source for employees that may get terminated due to the very issues brought up here. I think a lawyer would love to have these posts in court. It shows a clear ongoing level of disregard about safety and shows that the concern was brought up before. Just need to make sure that when you bring it up to management, have a witness, (in a pre-shift you'll have many), and document the date, time, who the boss was and what was said and what was said in response.

I know you can't record meetings, but as far as I know, you can still take notes right? Shows you're "engaged".

Franklin,

I would love to take notes...but we never have meetings in CLE anymore! The last one we had was over 6 weeks ago. I think they are afraid to give us any info. City drivers were not informed we were not working July 5 until 10:15 AM on Friday July 2 via an intermec message! We have a nice new large meeting room...been in the new terminal for over a month...it is still waiting for it's virgin meeting!

Ive decided that ones happiness at this company is location driven because some guys cant say enough good things about this place, others wanna get out as fast as they can and never look back.Very sad in a way some very good things about working here but man there shure are alot of things I could do without thats for shure....I know a little off topic but...I do know this the tire selection shure gives me a warm fuzzy feeling inside when it comes to trying to get down the road this winter oh boy just cant wait to get out there on the snowwy highways....

I've got a new KW I've had for 6 months, I've got 95K miles on it and the Bridgestone drive tire's are almost worn out, already had to replace the steer tires, because they were cupping and shaking so much. I've had the same problem in wet weather with wheel spin and breaking loose in curves. Worst tire's I've ever had in the 22yrs. I've been with the company.

This is part of the entire country's move to green technology, the closed shoulder supposedly saves fuel but doesn't perform well in the various weather situations that a traditional tire can handle. I'll take my Super Singles any day over these closed shoulder ones.
