Holland | I Have a DUI and Possession charge 10 yrs old.

Must have been recently. They are desperate for warm bodies now after YRC, with the help of the IBT, made Holland a much less desirable place to work.
the company has a poor credit rating too. so how can they complain if you have one!

I JUST WANNA DRIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can any help, I went to driving school and graduated on 11/19/2010. CLASS A ,endorsments Doubles/triples and tanked.

Have you considered suing the "driving school" for deceiving you into spending money on training for a job you cannot get? Did the "school" know your background? If you claim 'fraud' the burden of proof is upon you, if you claim 'deciet' the burden is on them. Sue the "school" for a refund AND $500 per day you've been unemployable since going to "school". Seems you've got the time. check out rodclass.com and marcstevens.net to further your reading and comprehension skills. Who knows, you might be able to get paid by drivers seeking to keep their license AND you will never again take a plea laying down. GET OUT THERE AND FIGHT FOR YOUR RIGHTS

Someone said check Vitran an you said where are they. The reason nobody wants to hire you is cause your a dumb ass. Look in the phone book stupid. Cheeessssus

There's a lot of things these companies can't do legally, like discriminate against you for such things as poor credit, age, gender, race, marital status and education (being deemed over-educated or under-educated) when these things have no bearing on an applicants ability to do the job, but the sad fact is, they do anyhow. They just find another excuse to get around the law or they just refuse to give any reason at all (the most common) and you can't explain or defend a false reason for being passed by.

Speedball, I might be wrong but I think a company can use your credit rating or education level for hiring qualifications.

Tired & Hungry: Thats too bad. You must be a non-union driver cause you wouldn't lose your job if you were a Teamster. Thats too bad

The Onion cant do a damn thing about Johnny Law taking your license. What do they do put you on the dock until you get your license back?

Get one driving company equipment and you are toast, permanently. Union or not, as it should be. Get one in personal vehicle, go through treatment for (sickness) then get job back (on dock if company goes along with it depending on severity of the charges), OK to go back on road when licence restored. Repeat offense will be out the door.

Nothing was said about a company truck pinhead stick with the the real post. Your changeing the subject is stupid!!! an has nothing to do with the original post. talking to you speed-ball.

Here's what I learned. Or think I learned. Take it for what it is. Holland and anyone else I've dealt with appreciates and requires honesty on the app. Lie about it and you won't get hired. Tell the truth and you won't get hired. However, what I have found is that the background checks are done through a third party and they only go back ten years. Anything older wont show. That DUI will though as its on your driving record. Any misdemeanor won't thats past ten years. In my opinion, you have nothing to lose in lying about the possession charge.

The TSA requirements for hazmat might be something different, but simple possession won't bar you and it's unlikely that they cross check your application for employment with the federal hazmat background check. Meaning that they might see it, but because it's not disqualifying, won't care and won't say anything to your employer.

I do believe that where I work, they're not likely to hire you off of the street for a driving job because of the DUI. But if you were to apply for a dock job, they would not ask you about it. Then, once on the dock, you could bid on the posted future driving opening and if qualified, get it before thy look at any outside apps. That might be a work around.

Keep your head up and you'll get something.

Another stumbling block is that you cannot get into Canada with your record. If the company you're applying at goes there, they won't hire you because of that. It's a perfectly legal and legitimate reason. Gotta find someone who won't need that out of you.

I was at Holland for the last 16 years before retiring and the advice you give is right on,(both posts) but since 9-11 and homeland security is now in the picture on the the background checks, they may be more intense, but honesty on the app is most important. The 'back door' approach may be best, and he may just decide he likes that or city p&d better anyhow what with the new HOS rules to deal with on the road.

I'm just glad I kept my crap together, never would work for Vitran, they suck, but hey I wait a minute I work for Big E, they screw you with there Category system, wanted to work for Holland years ago and for some reason I did'nt get hired, never figured that one out, been driving for almost 17 years with a totally clean record, and at the time I went to Holland had 4 years in, but now that YRC owns them don't know if I would have wanted that job anyway.
But man Holland was the great one out there. Alot of good people there, that don't always think of themselves, unlike the BIG E, man if you can screw the guy next to you go for it, that is the Big E way.
