Have purposely not decked all week so my BPH are high ! More production more money !

Ive told all customers with jom's that I can't wait and they can give it to someone else! We don't have time for such foolishness. Got to make the numbers and more money for the shareholders!

Parked a tractor, drove a forklift, unloaded freight from a PT, and loaded it into a different brand PT.

I quit worring about our operating ratio because this company pisses away more money than they make. Trailers coming into a service center only to leave out for the hub only to remove freight for the center they were just at. Being told to write everything up damaged wether it is or not to cover our butts. This only gives the red light to damage freight because it will be written up damaged anyway. They go around their butt to get to their elbow with this economy freight but what do I know I'm just a parttime driver/dockworker. Saia operating at a 96.5 at 266 million last quarter, OD at 86.5 at 480.5 million and the largest (Fed EX) at a 97 with 48 million. What a joke. We need to start delivering the customers freight and stop this economy BS before we are all out of a job. Just my two cents for what ever it's worth.:regretful:

I have also reduced my decking and lowered the quality of my work in the last few weeks, and my bph is going up quite a bit. The company says they want you to do a good job, but in reality it's all about bph. Which is a shame, but that's the way it is.

It's all about how you appear to do your job, not how you actually do it. As long as your numbers are good, you're golden.

Not sure your numbers are quite accurate. Are you sure the 480.5 and 266 million numbers aren't their gross revenue and the 48 million is our profit? Not exactly an even comparison

All I know is what I read in on the internet and you can read it on their thread here. OD is operating at 86.5 we are at 97, 3 cents on the dollar to 13.5 cents on the dollar and I know that Saia is profitable too. If you look at OD's trailers going down the road I know that their rear trailer doesn't bounce around like ours does. We pull a lot of empties at least here in my area anyway. OD is kicking everybodys butt right now because they operate like a trucking company and not like a package company. I could be wrong on my numbers but check it out for yourself and see what you come up with. This company needs to make some major changes in how they run freight for all of our sakes. Have a good one.

I stand corrected I checked it out on another site and that was their gross revenue, their net was 39 million. Still not bad for their size though. I just hope that we can straighten this ship before it's too late.

Amen brother we are being run like Freds baby not going to work for an LTL compant they worry about everything but taking care of our customers.
Numbers dictate if someone gets picked up or not dispatch is calling customers and asking if we can pick them up tomorrow thats a helluva to run a company.

I saved the company 80 gallons of fuel last trip. I didn't fuel.

RC, 4 some years back, we had a road dispatcher at our yard that instructed the fueler to leave every road unit 30 gallons shy of a full tank of diesel. His reasoning was that we couldn't burn fuel we didn't have. It was brilliant! we all topped off at other yards, and the fuel used in our barn dropped! He got promoted to SCM at another barn!!! Woohoo!

A bean counters dream manager!!!

Steppin' over $100 dollar bills to pick up nickels!!!

Now I only bump into PT equipment on the yard instead of our stuff. :smilie93C_peelout:...:17142:

O ya, and now I only bounce my back box over a curb if it's an empty!
(boy I can almost feel the shuttle drivers and dock workers hatin' on me now over that last one, so I'm KIDDIN' ok ?)

Quit running compliant, and getting everything fixed before leaving the yard- that really hacks them off. From now on make the gate, and breakdown miles from your destination, the freight is only "guaranteed to get there- sometime" now (for the same premium price). Or better yet, run out of fuel, since you saved so much being lighter when you left, only means you can run a little heavier. It's much better that way. A "rent a wrench" is much cheaper than using a qualified mechanic in the yard, and so much quicker- not to mention how cheap the service is to get you going- their call alone is @$150.00 not including the fuel and filter, but hey, you made the gate!!. Let the receiving hub worry about the service. Just make your gate and forget about the rest. My only "guarantee" is that I make the gate.

I've been signing preshifts that seem to be doing away with "senseless decking". It states- double stacking is o.k. as long as you do it "this way". I can't find any supplies on most docks to do my job right in the first place, let alone the wrong way now. The red skirts sure don't bother restocking before each shift. (Wrap, straps, boards, bars, rope, cardboard, lifts, fuel...etc.) The skirts tell you to get some out of a trailer that looks like it has rolled a few times, why bother? The Fremont dock supervisor (for TOL freight) is an exception and uncommon, he supplies the dock- helps build decks, AND operates a forklift. At the end of the shift- he looks likes you, dirty and tired. With us doing away with decking, and destroying more freight, I guess we'll be number one in backhaul freight, and number two behind Conway- we'll even save more money using contractors to pick that up. I hear that Conway is purchasing trailers suited for decking, and the drivers- don't like it, I guess Conway will have to release those drivers and hire new ones, so as to brainwash them into doing it the new way. Oh yeah, the driver's are doing something about it, rumor has it- they are talking about unionizing. Shocking.

As for "just one more", tell them you just don't have time, and direct them to a carrier you would like to work for in the future.

That is a great idea I'll have to try that. I have saved fuel this past week, on my return trip all I've pulled is 1 trailer and a dolly. That saves on fuel plus it is more aerodynamic so I got to go 65.25 mph instead of 65. I am starting to worry though because it has happened for 6 straight trips.:o
