Just kick back and watch the show.

Ill file it under "Ill believe it when I see it." Man that files getting full.

Seriously, this company has more rumors than a high school.

Tractors will be all brown and both tractors and trailers will only say UPS, not ups freight, they have a plan?

Rumor has it UPS Freight and UPS will be combined as one company as of January 1rst, 2012

If this is true, you can bet there will be no beards. UPS will not have Grizzly Adams driving their brown truck. I don't care if you were grandfathered in or not. It's not going to happen...

Fedex Freight, and their parcel division Fedex Express never bothered joining those 2 operations into one.
So why would UPS try it?

Don't make any sense to me,the Freight division has loading docks, parcel has conveyors, I don't see how the 2 could work together?
But maybe that is just the opinion of an old freight guy.

I might not make sense in the city areas,..

But I think you will see a merger of sorts in the rural "zone" areas, As a way to utilize one piece of property to it's fullest,....And I think eventually see some merging of line haul,...

I agree, I dont see how it could work either. It wouldnt surprise me if one day some of the linehaul runs were merged somehow, but I dont think we will ever be loading small back and Freight on the same trailer.

That is already happening in some areas,....Small pack calls it "zone skipping",....They palletize a bunch of separate small packages and send them with freight to the closest small pack sort to where they are going and dump them back into their system,........

None of my business I don't work for ups but have friends that do they told me they were told for instance one loaded one empty go pick up another loaded either freight or package. Same color trucks same color uniforms. If you ask me this rumor will be one for the books pretty soon.

Uniformity of the color of the equipment and uniforms is actually a good operations cost saving measure.
However fully merging parcel, and freight in my opinion could be a real nightmare in the long run.

The Freight division knows how the deal with freight customers, and the parcel also knows how to deal with everything regarding parcel, to merge both operations could be a real circus.
And besides all of that parcel, and freight contracts don't have a lot of the same concessions.

I still think if this is such a good move their closest competitor Fedex would have merged all of their divisions before now.

this would be pretty hard to do i think parcel gets paid lot more than freight this wood cause war between freight and parcel u wood see freight pulling most of the frt to save money :couch:

Sounds like rumor, now when contract in 2013 comes up, might be a different story we could all be in for a big surprise

I have seen about 10 of these tractors running around the North East. They are all brown, but they do say UPS Freight on them. The article on the Upsers website says that the solid color brown will allow UPS package to utilize the equipment better if needed during their busy season. The new pups has only the UPS logo on them.

Usually right around this time every year the parcel division really starts getting hammered with Christmas orders.
They always hire a bunch of extra package handlers then weed out the ones they want to stay on after the holiday rush if they were good workers and if parcel still need more help.
I know a few of my friends worked the Christmas rush in past years.
Before I retired and I was still a city driver, I used to see a lot of rented vans and trailers during that busy time.
Now I can see if the parcel side needs extra trailers, and freight is slower, they can just grab some of the freight trailers to fill their need.
Sounds like a plan.
