KK,I m a proud union man. I`ve been in the union 37 years and served as a steward for 9 of those years in 2 different locals. The union has changed drastically since I first became a member. Hoffa jr. is not one of the people who fought for what the teamsters gained over the years like his father and people like R.V.Durham and many more that I can`t name right now. Hoffa jr never had to fight for anything or missed a meal or stand on a picket line for his livlihood. Hoffa jr has presided over a union that has declined in membership, prestige, and led this organization into a freefall. Now he wants to sound tough ( Like he`s only seen in the old movies) fighting for Obama and demonizing other groups that don`t fit his agenda.. Where was he the last 10 years when the contracts, working conditions and pensions for teamster members was going downhill, not even keeping up with inflation? I didn`t see him fighting anywhere near as hard for his membership as he is for obama. Hoffa jr doesn`t care about freight members anymore, all he wants to do now is organize public sector workers where politicians will agree to anything to get votes. They know when the big pensions and raises come due they`ll be out of office and the taxpayers will be on the hook. Unions in the private sector are one of the greatest things that happened to this country, but they do not belong in the public sector.
Unions should never have gotten involved in the political arena. Now it`s too late in the game and they have to be involved, but it was a mistake for them to get into politics to start with. When a union leader climbs in bed with politicians, they will rise or fall with the success of that politician. If obama is successful, the only one here to gain anything will be Hoffa jr.not the teamster union. Hoffa jr knows that and so does most of the membership. Your loyalty to Hoffa jr is admirable, even though I believe it`s a little misguided.
