Everybody should have health coverage, because the 50 million or whatever the number is, goes to the emergancy room and run's up a big bill and guess who has to pay for it??

When those 50 million "can't afford" health coverage who do you think has to pay for it?

Should people who can't afford health insurance be denied entry to the emergency room? Should we as a society let poor people die because they don't have insurance? Whats the solution? A single payer system? Let the private sector and the markets come up with an answer?

crickets.......

I know some of them won't be able to afford it, a small number, so your making an awful big assumption that those 50 million people can't afford a basic coverage plan, for at least major medical. When some of those 50 million that could have afforded major medical and they didn't purchase because they didn't have to, wind up filing bankruptcy because they were in the hospital for 2 weeks and have a $100 thousand dollars worth of bills, who do you think pay's for that???????:coffee1:

If you Obamacare lovers are so compassionate go adopt a family and insure them. We have Medicare and Medicaid, thats enough. Why should the people that are insured be dragged into this?

Well if Medicaid covered these 50 million people that we are talking about, then what are we even having this discussion? There are alot of people that can afford insurance, but decide to roll the dice, and then get sick and run up huge medical bills and we pay for it, then there are people that are making minimum wage that their employer doesn't offer insurance, and they really can't afford buying it on the open market because premiums are ridiculous, so to your point about being dragged into this you already are because of the people going to the emergency room with no health coverage......:coffee1:

BS, if "we" pickup up the tab for ER visits thats a tiny fraction of the supposed 50 mil. Who does pick up the tab for mercy care anyway? Does the Gooberment reimburse hospitals? Im calling bs,my brother was uninsured and got cancer. He was able to get Medicaid after the diagnosis! Thats how it works.

Ok, if we are going to use life experance as our giude, amd I'm sorry to hear about your brother, my brother has a small business and he told me at christmas that his premium's for his wife and 2 kid's were $700.00 a month and he isn't even on the policy, because if he was it would be $900.00 a month, so he goes un-insured. On-top of that, they(insurance company) doesn't even cover a certain medication that his wife takes that costs $200.00 dollar's a month and it is a maintance medication. He is pissed about this highway robbery, and I don't blame him. Why is his premium's so high?? Thats BS.. And if he gets sick your saying he has nothing to worry about because he will be placed on medicaid, I tell him that, Fartknocker told me.

My brother is alive and well because he was put in Medicaid, after the fact. Obamacare has already caused higher premiums, your brother wont benefit from it. The single greatest thing they DIDNT do is allow the purchase of insurance across state lines. But they think that their exchange gives more choices in the marketplace.

I wasn't making any such assumption. Actuaries know that the sum of all premiums collected will be more than the sum of all claims paid. It is cheaper to pay your medical out of pocket than having insurance until something major happens. If paying premiums was cheaper than paying the medical bills in the long run insurance companies would be out of business.

Most of the folks who use emergency rooms for their sniffles do so because they can, not because they can't afford insurance.

Urgent care in the ER does not cost anymore than a scheduled visit to my doctor,.....

So if I can't get off of work during my doctors regular hours I can still see a doctor first come first served in urgent care,........

And yes, I do have insurance,............

What does insurance have to do with Union debate and news????

Shame Of America: Desperate Man Robs Store For One Dollar In Order To Go To Jail To Get Health Coverage
By Zaid Jilani on Jun 20, 2011 at 6:00 pm

Verone chose prison over pain.
James Richard Verone of North Carolina spent his whole life playing by the rules and staying out of trouble. Having worked as a delivery man for Coca Cola for 17 years, Verone was known as a hard worker and honest man.
Yet when he was laid off from Coca Cola three years ago, Verone was desperate to find work. He eventually found employment as a convenience clerk, yet he began to notice a protrusion in his chest. He developed arthritis and carpal tunnel syndrome, and soon the pain became too much for him to bear. He filed for disability, but he was denied any sort of coverage by the federal government.
So earlier this month, as the Gaston Gazette reports Verone drove to a local RBC Bank and told the teller he was robbing them for a dollar. He said he wanted to rob the bank in order to go to jail and get medical coverage:
Verone didn’t want to scare anyone. He executed the robbery the most passive way he knew how. He handed the teller a note demanding one dollar, and medical attention. “I didn’t have any fears,” said Verone. “I told the teller that I would sit over here and wait for police.” [...]
Verone says he’s not a political man. But he has a lot to say on the subject of socialized medical care. He suspects he wouldn’t be talking to a reporter through a metal screen wearing an orange jumpsuit if such an option were available in the U.S. “If you don’t have your health you don’t have anything,” said Verone. The man has high hopes with his recent incarceration. He has seen several nurses and has an appointment with a doctor Friday. The ideal scenario would include back and foot surgery and a diagnosis and treatment of the protrusion on his chest, he said.
Verone told the local press he would like to serve in prison long enough to be able to get out in time to collect Social Security benefits that he paid into his entire life. He also hopes to be able to retire along a beach some day. Verone says that he doesn’t regret landing behind bars and that he had no choice. Between continuing a life in pain and choosing prison, he is happy with his decision. “If I had not exercised all the alternatives I would be sitting here saying, ‘Man I feel bad about it,’” he said. “I picked jail.” The United States is the only wealthy country that does not offer comprehensive universal health care to every citizen; in no other rich country would anyone be faced with such a choice.

Sorry about your brother , I truly am . If I remember right it was when Rick Perry that was taking questions at one of the Republican debates and was asked that question that if a man dos not have insurance for such an illness should he be left to die and the Perry supporters in the audience yelled yes . Just wonder what your thoughts are on the subject that its a little closer to home . Again I am sorry that your brother is going through this and I will pray that the Lord will touch him with a healing hand .

Back to reality, anyone who does not understand that the U.S. government should be borrowing money to ameliorate this depressed economy is either ignorant, dishonest, or just blindly ideological. Struggling countries and businesses would KILL to be able to borrow at the rates at which the U.S. government is able to borrow. It's an opportunity that you would have be either clinically insane or deeply dysfunctional not to take advantage of. Which of the two descriptions fits the U.S. government is anyone's guess.

How in the world are we going to PAY IT BACK???????!!!??!??!!? If we would STOP SPENDING SO MUCH we wouldn't have to borrow! The government took in 6 trillion more last year than the year before in revenue, but we still have a 1.6 trillion defecit! We can't get them to approve a budget. Do you realize we have gone 3 years now without a federal budget? If you ran your house that way where do you think you'd be? Heck, if Con-way ran it's fiscal house that way where would we be? I'll tell you where, we'd be broke JUST LIKE THE GOVERNMENT!!! STOP WASTING MONEY!
