It's not about whether or not the company values its younger employees as all work is assigned by seniority. If the company worried about making sure everyone worked as much or as little as they wanted, they wouldn't be able to service our customers as well. The company puts men in tractors when and where they're needed, it's about making service.

How about this, several other LTL companies in my area start giving drivers 4-day work weeks when freight slows down. They post early in the week what day you're off, and if you're a senior driver they give you a choice of what day you want to take off. Senior drivers can usually pick Mondays or Fridays off, the work gets distributed to where everyone makes enough to live on while it's slow, and when it speeds up then it's balls to the wall again. I've talked to several Southeastern drivers and this is how they manage their man hours when it's slow. Then they always have the option of calling you if they're particularly busy on your day off and you have the option of coming in and working. I definitely wouldn't mind that, because they give you a heads up on what day you're off, and it still doesn't screw with having weekends off. Sounds like a good plan to me.

You don't have to make excuses for our company to anyone, especially this joker

Who's the joker? Me? Are you saying I don't have a right to my opinion, especially if it's based on fact of how things operate? I'm sure you've been with Con-way for quite a while now and your livelihood isn't jeopardized when the freight is down, unlike some of us. So just because not all of us have the great gig you have means we don't have a reason to be concerned about our own skin and need a place to vent that frustration? Does it bother you that not all of us have such a rosy view of this company? Think of someone other than yourself for once. In my complaints I'm not talking about just myself. There are lots of guys at this company that are suffering the same situation as myself, and I feel for them as well. The situation needs change for ALL of us to make it a better place for ALL of us. Only then can we truly serve the customer the best and move ahead in the business.

He wasn't talking about you..your not the joker.. go back and re read everything.

Are you still sore at me when I said that I could not understand how you can love the United States?

Were all friends here. You wear blue pants and a tablecloth shirt to work just like I do. Whats the first thing you learned when getting a CDL? Steer towards the problem driver. I will bet you that we can agree on whats the problem, we just will never agree on who should be holding on to the steering wheel.

I worked for conway for two years.two years too long in my opinion.talk about harassment.conway was good at it.I guess some people just get used to it.I know I wasn't.again...no one forced me to work there.
There were hardly no work rules.you took a lunch break when you could.plenty of cut throat co workers.if the company wanted to find something to fire you over.they could and did at will.they could never find enough workers to work for them.everyone in the dfw area had worked there and left.they even had to hire temps from the temporary hire work company.with that kind of help.conway had big damage claims.they would just cram the freight on their trailers.damages damages.the odds were against you if you wanted to stay employed there for many years some have and are still working there.but they even tell me it hasn't been to easy.you always had to watch your own behind.or you'd get the ax..would I ever work there again..nope.same goes for central transport.I hear its pretty bad there.

I'm sure they probably don't want you back, so you can rest easy with your decision of not coming back.

It sounds like a good plan to me as well. Have you considered employment with one of the other companies you're speaking of?

Doesn't sound like an excuse. It sounds like a fact you can't handle.

And after you said this to me, beerfd said the following:

People that don't work for this company, post negative stuff, because they don't like how good we have it. They want to drag us down to their level. I'll never understand why somebody whom doesn't even work for this company, would post things about this company and its employees. I never go to another companies board and post negative things about the drivers there. That just goes to show that we must have it good. Happy posting everybody..

And to you beerfd, I would simply say this. The idea that Conway is a non-union shop, paying equal or better wages and benefits than their non-union competitors just doesn't fit with slim's narrative. How dare any non-union driver be happy working in an environment free of burdensome work rules and a cumbersome grievance procedure.

I was reading threads in the YRC forum and stumbled on this one.

http://www.truckingboards.com/forum/yrc-freight/11485-i-need-some-help-my-grivence-guys-please.html

I could see how this could be good if I were some kool-aid drinking union man, but I doubt I could do what this guy did without feeling guilty.

WOW. On one hand I am jealous that they can get away with that. On the other hand .... wow. How does a company stay in the game with crap like that going on ?

I admit.we have some doozy of a union worker where I work.not all but some.a lot of stupid stuff goes on at both non and union companies.
Overall my experience at a union represented company has been good.better than when I was employed at conway.

Oh..I have experienced that aforementioned grievance.good money if you can win it
We have a contract that was agreed upon by the company and the union
It works both ways.we have obligations too

And how may millions is your company going to report losing in the 4th qtr.?? They need to get rid of the work rules and just do what needs to be done..YRC needs to get back to being profitable, they cant do it with all those work rules and people complaining about having to hook their own sets and all that grievance B.S. If it were me, I'd trade the contract for my 15% and pension payments to return. But, that's me.

If company management followed the work rules they wouldn't lose the grievances,....

Work rules are a good thing, They outline who dose what, I wont take work away from a brother, If it is his job he should be doing it and getting payed for it!!

Hey..im just trying to help. I don't want your company to go out of business. It would be bad for the trucking economy.

First off I don't work for YRC, Your right it would be bad if they went out,...

However work rules are work rules and need to be followed by all involved, Both Management and the Union employees,...

Work rules are GOOD for the trucking industry!!!

How would YRC going out be bad? The excess capacity would be used up and the remaining carriers would be able to jack the rates up.
