XPO | Union Debate and News

I do remember conway almost lost its core customers.when the union outfits were on strike.conway was so overwhelmed by the freight that they had scabbed.they couldn't make service and damages were sky high.damages are sky high anyway..besides the point..grinning

Must be all that freight going on sub-service vans not equipped with SafeStack. I've got another question, do FOS's not have enough to do? I got a load terror report last night for a shipment I loaded the other day because it was stacked with no dunnage. IT CAME FROM THE CUSTOMER THAT WAY!!! I loaded it the way it was tendered! It didn't fall over, the freight wasn't damaged in any way, it just didn't have dunnage. WTF? If the customer is OK with it being stacked, then why on earth should I take it all apart and put dunnage between the skids, risking damage by further handling? That's fine, after we wasted 30 minutes of the company's time in "retraining" I'll just waste some more time and take it apart and put dunnage underneath it.

I remember when I worked for that conway company.I would load stuff on a trailer.correctly mind you.id go home.come back the next day.supervisor would bring a picture or pictures taken of that very load from the day before.and try to reprimand me for loading a trailer and damaging the freight.here's the kicker.after I had to go home.many more workers loaded on that same trailer.they moved my freight and then loaded it back on.damaging the freight i had loaded earlier.

Freight they had "scabbed?" Please spare me, you talk as though that freight somehow was the property of the carrier who's union was on strike.

Since the customer was satisfied with the freight as you tendered it, then perhaps you could have appealed the decision instead of airing your dirty laundry in a public forum.

Mr.idgarrit..a lot of the freight we do haul is contractual freight.id rather be union labor with a contract.than a laborer that doesn't.without a contract the company can and will use you in the manner that they see fit.even if that means a demeaning or harrassy job.they can and do fire people without reason.
Now in your case.you might be one of those good ol boys company men.that will do anything the bosses say.yea sir yea sir.anything you ask boss.do special favors for better runs or job selection.in the while you're doing an injustice to your fellow workmate(s).all for one and none for the others.as long as your needs are taken care of.I know your type.
I prefer to be in a union.than be in your shoes.I was once.it wasn't too kosher.you can blow hard all you want on here.behind your keyboard.even with the company I work for and its financial issues.ill ride it out here.I've been in this union 14 years.there must be a reason.why I'm still union.

You and I for sure have a different way of seeing things. If I were being forced to work for Conway in a non-union environment, I would be complaining just like you are about their business practices, but I made the choice to work here over your union company who has a terminal just down the street from mine. I like coming to work and giving 100%, it's about integrity, it's about delivering the best possible performance I can every day. This notion is foreign in a union shop where the union guys work to a minimum acceptable standard and critisize a guy like me for being a "company man" Perhaps if your union buds would step up and perform like the guys at my place, you might help turn your struggling company around a little sooner. Don't try to convicne me that union drivers are as productive as the nons as that would simply be untrue as I have enough knowledge of how your guys do their job to say that with a great degree of certainty. Someday, when the government decides to quit bailing out Democrat friendly banks and union companies, your company will go belly up and you'll have to make a choice, I'll wager that you couldn't last 6 months working for my company.

I bet with my B.S. degree from illinois state university.that if we were to go belly up.id come over to where you work and be the best boss you ever had.
