Well, it's been a week since the new Hub has opened. It has endured some growing pains....no pleasure here.
The place is understaffed (40 dock hands) and runs late every night for most gate times.(70%)

So, what do you do if your looking at a 1-4 hour delay.......clean your truck, take a nap, talk shop wth others?
The new policy is, all drivers (25) are required to sit in a very small break room on cafeteria style tables and wait for their assigment.
Yes, all the drivers are in constant contact on when their trailers may be ready........
The thought of any drivers having to sit on a hard wood bench for hours is unrealistic.
And a finally rant, most drivers are up against their 14 hr rule and using the 16 hr exception just to get home. This will blow up as soon as Old Man Winter shows up,and that's not far off.
Good Luck to all who stop in Herm.

most hubs have a cb in the office and call out to drvrs when there loads are ready. Just call safety and get them envolved, Let them know that you could be getting rest in your trk and are being forced to sit in a room, just say IT'S UNSAFE!

with all those drivers working the dock it will get trailers out a lot faster and give you some extra pocket money.

I'd rather work the dock over being stuck in a room with a bunch of road drivers. Amazing, drivers setting for hours because of a lack if dock workers in place if getting on the dock and getting the work done.

OP, look at the bright side - you have a road job at a brand new hub that is understaffed! Just think about the job security, you shouldn't have to transfer for what, a month?!!?

I agree that it would benefit a driver to go nap in his truck while waiting. A sleepy driver benefits nobody.
Seems like a safety issue to me especially if your drive time is more than 200 miles away.

I'm on a HUB turn and work the dock most every night (unless I get in to the Hub late)...I will either run bills and throw decks for someone or if a motor is available I grab it and a breaker with my freight on it..Once finished with the breaker I chase the last of my freight and let the supervisor know my trailers are done...While he is closing the trailers I clock off and start hooking and do my pre-trip ( because being in the know I know where my trailers are)..By the time I'm done the paperwork is processed and hooks are on the counter, check seals and gone...If you want to get out quicker you have to help yourself..The extra $200 a week is a nice perk and sure beats all the unhappy faces in the lunch room..

People will work with you if you work with them..Just go to who is running the show and play lets make a deal..We have some Hub turn drivers that go out on the patio on thier own time and run bills for those that have thier freight just to help get them selves going a little sooner.

I don't mean to be rude but you can keep your purple promise..I do it with my own self interest in mind...

Well look at the bright side, ya'll BSE drivers have a lot more time to think up some more good RUMORS on how Mountain Home is closing ect.......After 1 week I have already heard how MHM is going to be relocated 20 miles down the road to the Stage Stop..( the current HOG meet point with NSL) Ya'll can do better than that can't you?
