Greensboro, NC -- The driver of a truck that slammed into a car on Mother's Day killing two young boys was sentenced in a Greensboro court Monday.
Police said Jayne Perkins was talking on a cell phone when her truck slammed into a car in a construction zone on Interstate 40 on May 9th. Daryl Bauccum, 15, and his brother, 11-year-old Isaiah Reynolds both died in the crash.

Why don't the cell companies just make the phones not work in a moving vehicle. It's getting ridiculous out there with idiots on phones while driving. They could have exemptions for law enforcement or emergency vehicles but other than that I say disable them.

Oh my yes I do agree with you TrailerTruckin, not much more then a slap on the hand, and a misdemeanor?
I thought killing another human being was at the least a felony?
And she took out 2 young ones,go figure our court system is kind of messed up with some major violators.

Well it is something on her that will be in her mind for many years to come,I know I wouldn't want to live with anything like she is.

My only other thought on this,is hindsight, however I have to say, every commercial driver really needs to focus on everything at all times to stop the tragic loss of life, and bodily injuries a split second can bring.

She might have gotten off with a "slap on the wrist" in this trial, but wait until the civil litigation gets over with. Her and the company she was driving for better get their check books out. Now I know that the boys will not be brought back by money, but you can rest assured the phone call is going to be a very expensive call.

Why should laws be put on the books to force cell phone companies to do anything to enforce proper use of their product? This was the fault of the driver. Not to get too far afield but will padding on bats be next to prevent their use outside a ball game or practice? How about devices that force drivers to not tailgate (a pet peeve of mine, by the way, that most of the US driving public INCLUDING MANY TRUCK DRIVERS does on a regular basis)?

I'll be,I was on one of our expressways around 10:30 AM this morning and was going a little under the speed limit because it was snowing.
I had no trouble overtaking a Fedex Freight 48 foot Semi trailer, and thought it a bit odd he was dogging it in the center lane?
As I passed him in the right lane,I see him engrossed in conversation holding his cell phone to his left ear.

You gotta know the thoughts that came to me after posting as many crash reports that I have since becoming a trucking board member.
To see this professional driver chatting away with out being totally committed to his direction of travel.
All I could say to myself was shame on you driver..
Truckers may have many negative habits they are used to doing, however it only takes a split second for any one of those habits to catch up with you,and whoever may be driving around you.
