I was at a terminal the other day and the terminal manager was having a discussion with some of the drivers
about their start times. He was telling them he wants them to come in for 9am everyday, and if there loads are ready they can punch in and go to work. If their loads aren't ready they have to wait until 9 :30 to punch in. This didn't make sense to me because if the terminal manager says be there for 9 am then you should be able to punch in?? Correct?? He said at his old terminal in NJ thats how they do it?

Not P/D, yet notice alot of terminals I run into that have start times listed on the wall or message board. Our line haul has a regular set times, yet fluctuates due to freight getting in. I call terminal usually when I get up, couple hours before gate time. Told if normal or approx. time trailers will be ready.

Please! what's 30 min. i do not punch in to they tell me to..Corp. is cracking down on yard time'sThey are lucky that they only have to wait 30 min.before punching in.The term's are being watch'd for driver's being on the clock for period of time before leaving. They want us to be off the yard within 30 min. of punching in.Then we are allowed 15 min. everytime we come back on the yard. They are watching. Also if you forget to punch in that whole day that you are working show's you has being on the yard.Like you said if load is ready you can punch if not wait 30 min.I think he is being very nice.

Also sound's like the term is having problem's with driver's just coming in & punching the clock. We have to call in every morning for our start time.If dispatcher say's 9 am then we punch in then.Alot of times I will show up earlier than i'm told to & if my load is ready then I will punch in .but,Alway's check with them before I hit the clock.

This is from the FMSA website

Also read your OD driver manual, all time spent on OD property is ON DUTY.

By law, if the company management requests you show up for work at XXXX time, then they are required to pay you starting at the show time. If not, contact your State Dept. Of Labor.

It's only 30 minutes, the company shouldn't have a problem paying it since they require you to be there for that 30 min.

What I'm saying is.30 min is nothing to have a job..We are all very fortunate that we have a job&haven't took any pay cut's,no insurance increases, getting raises. My problem with this post being started is by someone who doesn't even work P&D there&does not know what the meeting was all about. It is what he heard when he walk'd in.If those Driver's had a problem with this then they would address the manager who told them this.Sometimes people just need to stay out of other's business. If I have a problem with something I go straight to my manager&address him personally.I alway's get it straight. That is the great thing about OD's open door policy.Like I said before We all have a great thing going at OD & we don't need to rattle that by some 30 min coffee break ..PLEASE!!!!

If you are ever in question about company policy and you want to make it harder on yourself just use the open door policy and call your regions VP, or get a soda or cup of coffee and wait. you can only do so much in a set amount of time, whether it is dock loading or P&D delivery or linehaul. I also want you ask your fellow P&D on the street with the other companies about their start times, here they start up to an hour later than i do.

Thank You!!!you took the word's out of my mouth.I'm so sick of listening to other's complain about stuff that is so silly.I have been on the other side where the employer didn't give a ratt's crap about you.OD is a very careing employer to work for&for them to be has big has there are is just overwhelming.I tell other's that work where I work&listen to them cry..I tell them you better be glad I'm not the boss because I would show you where the door is for you to find the greener grass on the other side. The door is alway's open&you can leave any time.

Silly stuff?? Number 1 if the terminal manager tells you to be there at a certain time you should punch in at that time. Number 2 yea it's only a half a hour but look at it this way
30 minutes a day=2 1/2 hours a week=10 hours a month= 120 hours a year . That 3 weeks pay, but your right this is silly ?? Some guys crack me up !

But,really do you work there??if not you just heard...Those City Driver's can take care of there ownself if they have a problem with this.Has a linehaul driver you are getting paid very well&you don't have to worry about sitting around&not getting paid.

Don't mean to be harsh..But,who are we working for?ourself or OD.I'm working for OD&if I want a job I do what OD tell's me too..If you don't agree with that you need to start working for yourself.Sorry..I get a paycheck from them every week&if the man tell's me to be there&I need to wait 30 min.so be it..we are all lucky to even be working. There are alot who do not. What's the difference in a line haul driver waiting at a term on his load.He isn't getting paid.yes, you complain about it.But,really who are you hurting???You take it/ get you a hot cup of coffee & drink it off..I'm sorry that just sound's silly don't it???

Like I previously posted. Seems to a terminal, not an OD issue. Ran all over the country. Seen start times posted at larger terms, if at smaller, never seen someone stand around and not punch in if not voluntary. Know locations that have donuts and coffee and typical BS/newspaper reading before clock in time, more of a tradition and voluntary. We have a P/D driver who brings in biscuits and gravy couple times a month. Offers it to linehaulers if we are still there or coming in. Our P/D is also the morning dock, except those early preloaded P/D.

Yes,we do have to get our morning coffee&BS session in every morning.Hey!!I thought we did that on the clock????lol

By the sounds of it you must be one of these guys that came off the dock to be a driver. Lucky to be working?? Are you kidding me? In case you don't know it there is a driver shortage you can go to work anywhere with a clean license. By the way I work to better myself and my family not because The MAN tells too.

Yes,I could go any where..But,I have it made at OD.I have been on the otherside of the pasture&it may look green from a distance.but, it is grey&nasty when you get close.I enjoy what I do&I do my job..One thing I have learn'd at OD.Very simple, you do your job, tell the truth&not hide thing's,mine your on business&they will leave you along&give you a thank you, feed you, take care of you.I have better'd myself by working for a great company.I can say it is the first place where I have recieved a raise every year, heathcare rates have stay'd the same&we have great healthcare for what we pay,by the way.Great 401-k&they put money back in my pocket every year.So like you said you work to better yourself.Like I told another driver from another LTL one day because he was bad mouthing his place of work."I'm very thankful that I work for such a great company.I know there is bad everywhere but all in all we are treated like a person at OD just not a number.I don't know about you but I would work for less just so I don't have to put up with all the crap that goes on at other LTL's.And yes I came off Linehaul to work on the dock's till I got myself in local. So I'm very thankful everyday that I'm able to go in for a full day of work everyday&if I want to work a little extra on my time .They are alway's thankful for the extra help&the manager's alway's make sure to tell you thank you every week for what you do for them.

Also, when I search the board's all you see is neg.complaining about there place of work&there employer's don't give a crap about them, equipment bad, paycut's,&more money the other guy is taking from them because the "Big U" is looking after you.It goes on&on.When you look through the OD site you see no complaining.like someone posted on here earlier about jumping ship&coming to work for OD.That mean's alot to the outsider looking in because they see&have seen the other side.So maybe those people are trying to better themself. So like I said before I would rather give them a little to have a great place to work. Most other's you have been around for a while would say the samething..I'm getting older&older everyday&I can say it ain't has easy to find a great job now a day's&make the money that we do.

well we are all lucky in this economy to even have a job. i know at my terminal there are about 5 days a day that don't work because ther isn't that much freight. second if you drive line haul then go to gbo waiting 30. min is a blessing. we should all be thankful we work for od they haven't messed with pay or anything else. i run line haul and can tell you i lose about 4 hours a week waiting and i don't get paid for that. i know the gbo line-haul waits on average 2-3 hours every night which he dosn't get paid for. of coarse your alternative is welfare which then you have the state paying for everything then you feel bascially worthless i have been down that road for a couple of months before od and it is a horrible feeling. be thankful for what you have. its not roses everyday but its a good place to work dont believe me go try out conway or saia and i have worked for both and wont go back to either one.
