FedEx Freight | What are they thinking?

We were told the other night by an ASCM that they were told to be hiring part time help so that they would be staffed for spring because they are expecting it to get hammered busy. I can't see this happening but you never know.

I'm not making it up if that's what you mean by "lame". I think they told us that to give an excuse for keeping so much part time dock help and cutting our hours on the hub. They send us home on our 6th hour almost daily.

I can see this happening. I read a report that said the usual down turn in freight in December didn't happen in 2011, and we actually had a 6% increase in freight over 2010. Even ABF showed a profit in the forth quarter of 2011. Part time help doesn't cost them anything until they need them. Just my thoughts. TP

I've always had the opinion we were the highest price date at prom and super picky about what we haul is why we aren't crazy busy. Thanks C-ice, for the clearing up my confusion. It was told to another city driver that all our drivers would be on the road come spring. Hope it's true.

I don't care who you are that's funny. Did they happen to mention if our drivers would still be employed this spring while out on the road?

We were told the same thing at my place. But, some freight is being moved around in the spring also.

We were told they are going to go after more economy freight by giving better discounts. Not as high as they were a few years ago. Also said they are trying to make happy the customers we pjssed off last year with merge and the winter storm. They said to expect 30% increase in freight over normal levels by march. I've heard TER was told the same thing.

We were told nothing as usual

This may be good news for anyone still waiting to come back from the lay-off then. I'm glad to hear it wasn't some BS they were just feeding us to keep us "happy" on the dock. :butt kiss: Let's hope this is FINALLY a good news rumor!!:flame:

I heard from somebody's sister's boyfriend's mother-in-laws hair dresser who is married to some one in freight flow said by the start of the third week in Febuary, everybody better put their driving shoes on cuz there's gonna be lots of freight to move.

Heard the same thing. Except it was from a guy that was picking wornout panties out of a dumpster behind a strip cub. THAT is a reliable source!
