FedEx Freight | Any of you know the driver who crashed on US 74 mile marker 189?

I would guess that with the severity of the crash and law enforcement's decision on what caused it that he won't be keeping it.

roog

The authorities are indicating that he went to sleep behind the wheel. If that's true, Fedex will have to let him go because of insurance reasons. Glad to hear he's ok.

Driver was out of kingsport tn Broke his arm but he is ok. Dont know about keeping his job but it don't look good.

Thanks GMAN,I know a fractured shoulder is not life threatening, however it is a very long term recovery.
From the looks of this crash scene I wondered how he came out of it?

He will be with FedEx for a while. They wont let him go while he is on workers comp. A shoulder injury is good for at least a couple of years of checks and a nice settlement. Hopefully he was forced to work the dock and that was why he was tired.

I know a ex-driver for fedex who is still on workerscomp and he got fired and is still out on workers comp.

what if first accident, first ticket .fed ex policy 3 years of tight rope walking.seen to many drivers with no record fall asleep.it happens,do not lie,old timers will pull over and take a fatigue nap,new guys will drive tired, take a nap tell them fatigue, note it on log per safety, tell red shirt to eat dirt.call safety if given sh@t from home center.

There was another story of a Kingsport driver falling asleep and wrecking probably within the past year. That one was almost home too. It was posted here someplace

Glad to hear that some of you seem to be supportive of this man. But there is more than one comment on this thread that is proof that you are less than an honorable man. I know this driver, and have spoken with him since the accident. He told me that he DID NOT fall asleep. As a matter of fact, there were witnesses to the accident, that can back that up, with their version of what happened, and what did not happen. Also, the story was not complete. There are things that have been left out, as well as speculation of the event, by the writer, AND the cop. It doesn't take a lot of thought to consider that this story may be part of the prosecution in the case to take our driving hours down to 10, and some other changes to our on-duty times. These people need every piece of information that is in their favor, to change our paychecks, and subsequently, our lifestyle.

I sincerely hope that when another accident occurs, some will give their fellow man the benefit of the doubt, and keep their mouth shut, unless they know what they're talking about. But again, for those of you who weren't quick to make comments based on the assumption that the story is factual, THANK YOU!

Oh....one other thing. He's keeping his job.

I hope you are right and he keeps his job. as for the witness' to the wreck, what could they see if the driver was asleep or not in the dark at 4am ish? What caused this wreck tires, load loaded wrong, blow out enquireing minds want to know? the story did say he was ticketed.
Glad he is alive from the photos I have seen (5), not just the only one the paper shoewed.

USMARINE1973,thanks a lot for your update,I for one am happy there was more to the crash news then was reported.
And am also happy he was able to keep his job.
This information is why I posted on the FedEx freight forum in the first place.
A lot of the commercial crash links I search out and post have a lot of holes in the info they post on-line.
Whenever it is a name brand LTL,I try to seek out the rest of the story from those who may be close to the drivers involved.
So once again I want to thank you for this update.
As a retired UPS Freight safety trainer I leave you with this.
(3) things you need to be a safe driver, proper rest before your work duties, focus on everything,& patients.

A buddy of mine from K-town called me last night and told me the same thing, the driver swears he didn't fall asleep.
He said something went wrong and just jerked his wheel and the next thing he knew he was crashed. The NC trooper just assumed he fell asleep.
He also told me the same as USMARINE1973 said. After the review, he was told he gets to keep his job.
