Many of us hired in 05 and 06 have toughed it out and stayed with the company during years of extended layoffs. The company has said in the newsletter and elsewhere that they understood the hardships we've endured and they regret that the economy forced them to issue the layoffs. In other words, it was a decision that had to be made, dictated by freight levels.

Now for the second year, I've received a letter sadly informing me that my safety record doesn't count because I didn't work 60% of the year. They did the right thing in the early years. One year I was genuinely appreciative to receive a toolkit. The next year a fire extinguisher. Then they decided points in the company store was the way to go but they also decided that they would punish the drivers that have been here for years but suffered through numerous extended layoffs.

This decision was not motivated by hard circumstances that caused them to make hard choices. This is just punishing the laid off drivers.

I was an employee 100% of the time last year. The company decided to work me 55% of the year. Now they say that I failed to work 60% of the year and they have elected not to reward my safety record as they have in years past and as they did for all the other drivers right above me.

I will continue to be safe for my own personal reasons and not because I received points to buy a ball cap.

I quit participating in the safety program when they started giving us all junk made in third world countries.

recieved same letter, kinda like a kick in the nuts from wes. oh by the way will you run the relo-cubes when it"s 20 below????

Whinning about such pettiness. You think you are the only ones that have suffered thru the economy? Many don't have such a good job to come back to. I was laid off 21 months and grateful to have a pay check again and a good one at that. I will gladly hand you my safety award next time I get one. Just one question .... why have you toughed it out thru all the lay off???... Just a thought... this is the best job out there and there is no where else to go but down and that is the gods honest truth. If that is all you have to complain about ... you have nothing to complain about.

Isn't being a complainer a prerequisite for being a truck driver?

jim747, thanks for not disappointing me. I knew when I posted this that someone would come along with a post like yours. You are an example of why it is a great day to be an employer or a rich man. There are so many that are waiting to trot out the old and tired line, "Just be lucky you have a job, you have nothing to complain about."

There are many that did not tough it out through the layoff. Many left for other jobs and arguably could be better off. I had an employer that took me every time that I was laid off and told me the last time that I had to make a decision, he couldn't keep this up. Perhaps there's something in your work record that prevents you from other gainful employment. You are mistaken to believe that YRC or ABF are so great that no one ever leaves for truly greener grass.

Guys like you are spelling the death of the union movement. YRC and IBT have used the economy as an excuse to decimate the NMFA and now our Ohio gov and the gov's of several other states are using the economy as an excuse to totally castrate the public employees unions.

So, grab your pom-poms and head on out to lead the rally cry that the only thing we want now is a basic job, with no protections or benefits. We will not complain if we receive letters at our homes detailing the fact that we are not receiving benefits that others got because we were guilty of being laid off.

Jim, will you really give me your safety points because you are happy to just have a job? I don't believe you but I do believe that your comment marks you as a guy that would give a lot away just to keep your basic job.

I'll send you my 5,000 points...look at it this way at least you have a (JOB TO GO TO!!) We all have been down that road when I started I would run Fri. evening through Mon. morning then sit home the rest of the week.

Sounds like someone wants to drive a faster truck or dosen't understand the Freight industry. The 60% you are talking about have been in place for the 23yrs. that I have been here. If you are so unhappy try Estes I heard they are hiring..and they just took away their drops and hooks so they won't receive any delay time. Or you can go over to Old Dominion where you will work for at least 23 to 25% less than you are here by the time you figure in what they steal form you on mileage and the weekly contirbution you have to make towards your insurance, only a few holidays no sick days. I agree with Jim..also I have been a Card holder for 35yrs. I have seen the good and the bad times, its just my opinion but I think we have made it through the bad and the future is bright. Just remember one thing there is always somebody out there that would be more than happy to be on the board and have a good ( UNION JOB ) to go to.

I think you missed the part about my nice toolkit and I missed the part where I said that I want to drive a faster truck. You two make a good cheer squad. Your message has been given and received. If I complain about anything then I need to go work somewhere else. Got, it thanks.

come on guys, were all on the same team here. When I started 12 years ago you could only count on Fri thru Sun so Ive been there. As far as there safety awards go they are just objects of mass distraction.(And free advertising at a very cheap price) as far as better jobs go every job isnt good for every one. If you know where I can get one averaging 30 bucks an hr plus benefits and dont have 2 load or unload freight let me know and ill give you my points and my seniority to boot

It's not like A.B.F. lied or decieved anyone. If your safety points were that important to you maybe you should have asked during your interview how the system worked. Then you could have turned the job down instead of quitting like I'm sure your going to do any day now since your so infuriated over this situation. Really if you don't quit I'm sure you would be violating your moral standards and just be letting the "man" take advantage of you. So good luck in your job search I'm sure you will find some place that will give you $25.00 worth of company branded product even though you worked less than the required time to get such products and you will have your dignity back too.

I saw you in Boogie Nights and you want to talk about dignity? You're a p*on peddler and salesman of smut!

P.S. Your wife wants you to bring some milk home.

I'm not sure but I'm guessing I may have struck a nerve. How about I order a pack of A.B.F. tampons with my safety reward and have them sent to you. By the way you keep crying about this it sounds like you may need them. Will that make you feel better.
