We usually try to spell properly, punctuation is sometimes optional, but we ALWAYS strive to dispel the impression that truck drivers, as a class of people, are under-educated. And on that point....."raises every year except one"? Are you intimating that your raises are handed down at the leisure of your upper management? The reason I'm asking is because many of us here suspect non-Union companies raise their profitability and competitiveness by "rate-cutting" on the backs of their employees.....you know, lowering their labor costs so they can cut rates and drive their competition out of business, especially their competition that has scheduled, negotiated raises so that the families of their employees can try to keep ahead of living costs so that their wives aren't forced to work just to cover their family costs? You know....the way it used to be when our fathers worked and made enough to raise a family on one paycheck? Surely you hard-working employees at Old Dominion place a high value on your labor and refuse to allow your management to fluctuate your wages merely to drive rates down? Surely you have a voice in the costs of your benefits? And......surely you didn't fall for the clap-trap that a 401(k) is a pension, did you? A pension is something you can count on, not an investment scheme, subject to the vagaries of the market? I will agree with you that we all do the same job, the same dirty, hard ,dangerous job. We, over here at ABF however, tend to put a higher premium on the value of our labor. May I ask you a question? When all of the Union carriers are gone, how many MINUTES do you think you'll be the highest paid non-Union carrier before they lower your wages to be "profitable" against all the other non-Union carriers? For your information, that would be the "Toilet-Flushing" effect, and the thing being "flushed" would be your wages.....constantly. Look at the truck-load carrier side. 100% non-Union, 70 hour plus work week, 85% divorce rate, average wage....about $12.00 an hour. That's probably why there's a 110% turnover rate per year in truck load carriers, it takes about a year to realize how badly you're being screwed. And the Company says"Bring on the Next New-Hire!" Do you think LTL managers look at that $12.00 an hour wage equivalancy with a little jealousy?

How can you still be a moderator, if you still are one when all you show is hate for the union? I dont think the od guys need you to defend them. Like i said before you have no dog in this fight beacuse you not in ltl anymore but you can go & speak your mind all you want on the tanker forum....

Please show me where my post shows any hate for the union. It does show a dislike for juvenile internet bullies. You are wrong on the ltl jab too. I am still in ltl, just not the kind you handle.
