I got the training on this program the other day so I thought I would try it out. I measured out a multiple pallet shipment and got a 90% cube factor , then I did the same on another shipment that was almost the same size minus one pallet and got a 60% cube factor. I think there is a few bugs in the system. This program is going to roll out Monday for us, so all I can say is I hope they get it right , could cause some big..... problems.:fan::Emoticon_digging:

More staged freight @ the fac's @ ob docks. Later arrivals to and from.Move you clocks back about 1 or 2 hours to work the puzzle of these perfectly loaded trailers.....More delivery dsrs on street to make customers closing times.

Some customers here are pissed off about it. Especially ones who dont have alot of dock doors. DSRS are holding up their dock measuring freight. One of our largest customers were so mad they said they were going to fedex when the contract is up. In theory its a good idea, but in practice not so much.

If you run into a problem like that, then you have the option to by-pass the cubes. And then they will do it at the dock.

Listen be realistic Don't **** off the customer if you can't do it at the dock fine do it off site or at your next stop or just mark there's to be done at dock I've done this all week it's really not hard most Shipments are 48 x 40 x whatever the height is it really don't take all that long to do if you use Common Sense !! Bitching About it is not going to change your doing it your still gonna have too !!!

And Bottom line Fed Ex going to be doing it also I seen UPS Doing it this week also and ABF does it OD does it So Customers don't have a choice either !! its coming to them don't matter who is the trucking Company !!

YARD DOG. The way i understand it. the compter will adjust the cube according t the weight of the shipment. So you shipment that only takes up 50% of the trailer but weighs 24,000 lbs would be cubed at 100% while and order that takes up the same amount of space but only weighs 4000 lbs would be cubed at 50%.

OK that makes more sense . I was wondering if weight was going to come in to play. NO one that I talked to could answer that question.

Like I said before, we have been doing it since forever in Canuckistan. You will have some growing pains at the start, but once everyone gets used to it, it will roll along pretty smoothly.

good point...
write the measurements on the back of the BOL and finish in your tractor
if it's a regular customer I can tell you the size of their skids in my sleep.

hand-held stays in the tractor, sign the bills, write down your dim's as things are loaded, pull out of the dock, and enter your info.
nothing new... been doing it for a long time

Almost every company is going to this, and if they haven't they shortly will. This program is a huge 'revenue capture' for the company. And I mean HUGE!! Gone are the day's of having the salesman tell the customer "heck we'll just classify this freight as class 60 they'll never catch it" Yes, some customer's will get pissed, but they soon find out that every company that has decent service has this same for very simalier program.

i am the "sme" at my sc after 100 shipments the system will build a profile and enter some of the measurements. all week i have been at accounts that have 30 or more bills and it does take more time and it should not be done at the dock as due to safety and time limits. according to other service centers that have been ding it for more than a year it only takes 10 or so extra seconds once it becomes second nature. it still is a pain in the arss though!

The hardest thing about this for me has been to remember to do it. I keep the tape measure in my pocket now as a reminder.

I have been doing it for years and I still jump out of the tractor without grabbing the tape measure some times.

Yep!...upfront and honest.

The Con-Way mantra.

Do the dimension process out of the customer view...bang 'em later...

Amazing this company still has any customers.

Although the sky may not be falling...Chicken **** still stinks!!!!

Integrity...what a concept!!!

Too bad this company has never understood it.

The success of this company continues to grow with the integrity of it's drivers. Customers don't have a problem with dim-cap. They understand the need for accurate and honest information. A machine shop must produce parts within specific tolerances to avoid waste and profit losses. Dim-cap helps us operate within tolerance, i.e. eliminate inaccurate cube projections that effect our line-haul operation.

Interesting that the rodent family can not produce it's own food source and must seek out the discard of others to survive. You're right, chicken **** still stinks, but at least you can't smell it on our breath.

This has nothing to do with revenue. Only linehaul cube projections. You would have to see the training video.

i went to the palace over 3 yrs ago in the early stages of the co. wanting to do this. they stated then that it was to be used for line-haul purposes only.
