Who in their right mind would ship with us? We offer the highest rates for the worst service.

We have all kinds of drivers sitting at home not working, or working the dock....Yet we keep missing pickups and cant seem to get to our switches on time, so some of them are dropping us. We have lost so much freight over the past 12 months its scary.

We cant even get our linehaul runs done because of the incompetence. They make you sit at home then call you and say "Can you be here in 30 minutes?" We have had linehaul runs sit in our yard for much longer than needed because they will not utilize enough drivers to get the job done.

This company is a disaster. Or at least the Indy terminal. How do we keep our doors open? I never expected UPS to let one of their companies be run this way.

One of our bigger customers (2 full 53 foot switches a day) wanted us to do their switches between 10-11pm. Our genius head of dispatch said we cant come out that late, 9pm is the latest we can do switches (and we have guys starting at 4-5pm EVERY DAY and more sitting at home)....So that customer now uses Fedex Freight. What a joke! It was easy freight too. And this is not a he said she said thing, the head of shipping at that customer told me that himself.

A guy started at 130pm today with 2 stops, both had 10am-noon appointment times. He got to the first stop and talked them into taking it. They start unloading it and both stops are mixed together on the trailer! He ended up getting neither stop off. A full trailer back to the yard to sit.

OUR terminal sent just three guys on the street yesterday, left a ton of freight on the dock,by the end of the day all three drivers were running crazy trying to get all the freight picked up and didnt even come close to getting it done.JUst to make the numbers look good and of course secure that next bonus for the TM.

UPS better get their act together, ABF will gladly take that freight.

That's not a bad idea, we'll take your freight, then hire you guys.

All I can say is do your best UPS will get it all together. It's not as you describe everywhere. Remember one thing in all your complaints. This is the highest paid and best benefits in the LTL trucking right now and going higher. I for one am thankful for a job these days that pays this well...

We've done the same.
Not trying to start a flaming war but we snagged some key ABF accounts as well as some ABF ship jumpers.

It's a dog eat dog LTL world. One year we have the account the next year we lose it and than gain it back again.

The way we operate is highly subjective to what's happening at each individuals terminal and everyone's personal opinions.
Not everything is happening everywhere. One terminal does this, the other does that. One terminal is writing drivers up for not wearing safety vests the other is not. Nothing is uniform at all. Our work rules are so silly that each barn is interpreting things in different ways.
UPS Corporate has very very tough rules to follow and we all know this. Every petty little thing that's ever been brought up in meetings should be done by us as a driver everyday. (Uniform, appearance, not refusing work, fatigue factor, proper diad entries, attendance, whatever else etc.......)
It's local management that's the issue. They don't enforce on a daily basis, they don't plan or project correctly on a daily basis which makes them shoot from the hips, thus creating grievable mistakes.

There is a lot more to say, I'm sure others will chime in, but I don't plan on wasting valuable off duty time.

Gents, please don't start attacking each other, we are all grown men...If you can't stand a person just put them on your ignore list and you'll never see another post from them. Thank you.

When UPS bought Overnight and made it UPS freight I thought they would take the LTL business by storm. I knew how serious UPS was about customer service, commit times, time in transit, and all the other things that made the company what it is today. It's been 6 years and UPS freight seems to be going no where. I can't tell you how many times I have been at a customer and they were complaining to me about UPS freight. (I was a feeder Driver for UPS). I still see tractors and trailers painted with the old Overnight scheme and most of them are pretty ratty looking. It just doesn't seem that UPS is serious about building this company. They have the money and expertise to make UPS Freight into a premier LTL company yet they don't seem to be interested in that.

This is so out of character for UPS that it leads me to believe something else is going on here and I'm not sure what that is. I spent 36 years with this company and let me tell you something is off here.

The same thing can be said about every LTL company out there. If you think we are the only company with miss pick ups or damaged freight then you are sadly mistaken...
But you can bash the company that feeds you all you want. They can take it...

Well to be fair. UPS ain't feeding him much.

Yes, I do understand and we do have some things that needs to be corrected. If not now then in the next contract right around the corner.

Who doesn't? ABF has plenty of issues that hurt the company too. And we also have employees sitting, not working much,

I love competition in business. With that said, I also like seeing other companies doing good, and working all their employees 40 plus hours.

I gross about $200 a week at this job.

Know why? They wont let me work. They wont let a lot of us work. They use the least amount of drivers possible to make the production numbers look better. Over the last year we have lost a ridiculous amount of customers. Sure, every LTL misses pickups and doesnt get deliveries out on time. But does every LTL do it on a daily basis to their most important accounts? Does every LTL gladly give easy profitable freight to other carriers?

Ive been in LTL since I was 18, Ive never worked for a company so poorly managed. From what I hear, my terminal is the worst (Indy). When I run the road and go to other terminals, they seem to be much more organized.

Thought about looking at going else where?

How can you support the union at this company the way that the contract is so blatantly violated?

Language about casuals working before full time employees, and language about subcontractors is very clear, but they completely ignore it and have been getting away with it for years.

The union already got their money, why should they care?
