FedEx Freight | My days have worn thin.

they need to give us freight drivers all our senority back instead of giving it to alll the national drivers!!!

OMG , how dare you utter such words. You now shall be whipped and stripped of your TB membership! Don't you know your supposed to shut up and be happy about that? Or of course quit and move on as some have suggested. Shameful, just shameful. Your obviously not a team player. Now please take your ball and go home.

Thanks to the merger we have plenty of freight drivers who are getting quality home time. Hats off men

I know they added 3 years to my time when we merged. I wonder which Freight driver they took that time from and did he get it back when I left?:rolleyes:

First of all Wrong Way, your safety record isn't ruined, you just suffered a bump in the road. I do agree our "new and improved" safety program feels its my way or the highway. Your guilty until proven innocent. I believe our equipment maintenance program is below industry standards. For a large corporation we have a patch and peddle mentality. In your case I would have dead lined the gear and had it tested for defects. If you are involved in an incident, and you feel it wasn't your fault, take the time to get all the documentation you can, along with any witnesses. You actually have the best of both worlds, your young enough to make a switch and old enough to have some seniority at FXF. The problem is where would you go? Family owned trucking companies like OD are getting as rare as hens teeth, and as soon as they go public, they get swallowed up by a bigger corporation. ABF is a possibility, but all the teamster pension plans are in trouble except for the western conference. I'm glad its your decision and not mine to make. TP
I did have all the documentation ie: witness statements, camera footage,my appeal was 30 pages long. They looked at in RKI and GO office and stuff was fixed, then 3 diffrent people looked at it and they came up with 3 diffrent theories on what happend. I've looked other places, but the security for long term employment is not there. I'll get over the accident, but I just cant get over the investigation yet. Believe me TP, everything you said I told myself 2 months ago.

I'll tell you this , I know WrongWay personally and he does not make a mistake like that. He is one of the best road drivers in that domicile. He has been wronged by the company but FedEx will do what and say what ever they want in defense of themselves. I have more to say but I'll leave it at that because people know who we are and there is a retaliation factor that comes into play. WW is one of the best we have.

well Smoke......the way I look at it is that trucking (and a lot of other jobs) is kinda like sex.
At first it's a lot of fun and you try new and different ways of improving on the experience.
Then, it's kinda ok, but only a couple times a week or so.
Finally, it's a pain in the arse.....simply put.

So, what you do is figure what else is attached to that once happy experience. A stable home (paycheck). Decent food (benifits). And a good partner (not so much with FXF, but you get the idea).
The point is, trucking ain't what it used to be and it's not necessiarily FXF's fault. It's a job and a pretty good one. You've got less time to go than what you've put in......tough it out, say 'yes sir' at every opportunity, and every single day find something to smile about.......

Peace, Smoke

P.S. Again, much like sex, it's all pretty much the same.........

smokestack I know where you are comming from.It is hard to have fun here anymore but if you leave you will have to start at the bottom and look at how long it would take you to get the weeks of vacation built up that you get now.believe me I have thought about it a lot.I come to work now and try to do my job the best I can.I don"t kiss their ass .I cover my ass and don"t let them rush me.I am not going to get in a big hurry because that is when you screw up. I don"t bring my work home with me anymore.

I feel for you guys. I was assigned a tractor that the engine was missing badly, kept writing it up over and over, but they insisted it was the only one available and I had to drive it. Finally one night I got 1 mile out of the yard and blew the turbo, destroying the engine. Made no sense to me. I also couldn't stand the regimented atmosphere( the purple army!) and just being a glorified dock worker. But I only had 8 months in and didn't have that much to lose, so I quit and went elsewhere. Much happier now. I wish you all luck, but every company and even every barn are different(not to mention even different supervisors). Sometimes you just have to grin and bear it and hope that things get better...

I'm only 30 years old been with the company 8 years and I have my doubts about this place. Everybody has diffrent reasons for a change and a few selected have the same reasons. Me on the other hand I can't deal with the mis communication and the whole thing about the mgmt being right and drivers are wrong. I also don't like that central dispatch seems to have complete control ovetaker everything including the routes we have to take even if we ask for a alternate route. My BIGGEST reason for a possible change is the people in safety. Many people know, not sure how many on here though, but on 2-2-12 I had a trailer breakaway after driving almost 500 miles. I always look at both sides of the spectrum and try to come up with a resonable anserw and try to meet in the middle of a decison that has been made. Certin people have found me guilty for this event and say it was due to a high hook and a non proper pre-trip inspection. Many things were not looked at in the investigation and theories were changed time after time. I wont go into deatails, but all I have to say is take pictures of your pre-trip to have evidence if something happens!! My safety record is now ruined and I feel my reputation went along with it and I find it very hard to just get over it. FedEx Freight is a strong and profitable company and will or should be there for all of us to retire from. You can't find that in alot of other carriers. So the ? is stay with a big company that makes money or gamble on something smaller that may have no future. I'm sure we all will find out that staying is the better choice and remember all the problems we deal with is at every company, it just might be in a diffrent way or time. I'm not bashing the company or the people that work here. I'm just venting on my problem. There's so much I want to say, but I don't want to affend the company in anyway cause I do respect this place and the people I work for and the drivers and dock workers that I work with. I may not get along with everybody but we all do a tough job no matter what department were in and I applaud each and evryone. I guess in the long r un all I have to say is don't make rash decisions and protect yourself in everyway possible.
take a picture of your pre-trip realy, sounds like a fun place to work.

Ah s#*t here we go again crying about senority. What about all of us national drivers that lost our arse in that deal. I lost and now all I see is the stars at nite. Look at the name on your shirt and it will give you a idea of who to be upset with about this deal. :regretful:

This is one of the most depressing threads I have read. Geez, if I was that unhappy I would go find work elsewhere. Damn the money, life is too short. I like working for this company. Is it perfect, no. No company is and I've workd for some real !@#$ holes. Sometimes you have to let the BS roll off your back.

I agree with Guardrail.
I can usually let the BS roll off but anymore it just seems to be getting harder to come in and just keep going through the motions. I like being involved with a company I work for. I want to feel good about working there. When some ask where I work I want to have pride (as I once did here) in saying where I worked. And not have a bad first response to a person when they say you must love it there Ive heard its great. Usually when people say that to me I respond that you wouldn't think it was so good after a few years.

Between these companies and the government it is damned hard to do...and it is getting more difficult everyday.

Pardon me while I butt in here. I'm not a FedEx driver, but I have driven since 1976....9 of those years as an O/O. On my own tractor I had a breakaway after 250 miles....empty trailer, no less. Turns out it was metal fatigue in the locking jaw. It had literally snapped. Probable cause was my overtightening the adjusting nut (Fontaine 5th wheel) so I didn't have any slack. Didn't like the "slap" when I shifted. As an O/O ,I didn't have access to shop specs, just thought I was doing right. When I went to re-build 5th wheel, I got kind of a wake-up call as to how fragile (and simple) the 5th wheel mechanism is. Since then, I've never hit a pin hard, and always visually check. I would raise the question with maintenance whether the 5th wheel had a mechanical failure...believe me , it's not unknown, Brother. Good Luck.
