XPO | Is Conway a good company to work for?

Incentive pay, 10 sick days, pension, a year of vacation, 401k match, best insurance to not so good insurance, stupid time off during hooks and drops for road drivers, ot after 50 in the south, had a 5% reduction returned along with a slight increase this year. Prolly some more that i left out, but that's a brief summary.
at the smaller barn i used to work at, the top man there told me anyone hired before 1990 had lifetime health benefits provided by the company i believe. when i started there in 2002 the other drivers were telling me about those big icp incentive bonuses they had been getting (about $800 i think). in 2002 pension was still there and benefits were free.
i dont recall getting an icp more than $280. around 2004 benefits started costing 1% of your gross pay if i recall.

Oh yeah, I forgot icp. Insurance was paid for by company on entire family. $5 doctor, $5 scripts. I remember icp paying at 156%. $3300 to top pay guys at cse.

OK...That's a new one to me...things down South are different i guess.

No people just get confused or hear what they want to hear. Everyone gets paid actual time to hook and drop. A FOS may question why it took so long but as long as you have a reason for the extra time you will get paid.

Where we are, we are REQUIRED to show something in the time off column of the 265 for all hooks and drops.

I've never had them cut my drop/hook/fuel time on my 265. If something happens that delays me I enter the explanation in the S.I. box and the fos signs off on it. I think it has a lot to do with how "strict" the Service Center Manager is on this issue.

To answer the question asked in the title of this thread. I personally love working for Conway. I think it's a great place to work. It may not be right for everyone. Long nights on the FAC will separate the men from the boys or should I say the real truck drivers from that city drivers.....LOL J/K I love every minute of it.

That is not proper procedure system wide. Sounds like your SCM rules with an iron fist or is just a flat out moron.

It was a cse thing done after out biggest raise to this day. "System wide" includes the whole country except the former cse.

The worst part about working for Con-Way is not the pay, not the 15 hour days, not working dock & doing p/d in the same day, it's when they turn you on 8 or 10, wear you out, tell you your off on SAT then call you in for a line run, or when you have a BID start time, but they start bringing you earlier than the bid was supposed to be, THAT was the crap the ended my 12 years with them. Just my opinion.........

Didn't know that you had quit..I guess I for got that part. Refresh my memory. What happened. I know your the same person..because nobody could come up with that same screen name..

You do when you feel you have reached that point! :)

The bottom line, I gave my ALL to Con-Way, and got too frustrated trying to keep up with the policies, the inconsistencies, and unsettled work hours. I needed *continuity in my life, so I gave them 3 months notice, worked all the way up to my last minute, and went home happier than ever!

Don't get me wrong, it was VERY scary to just quit a job you had been at for years and years with no job lined up in another state. BUT, that's the beauty of having a great record and rapport! You KNOW you will get hired somewhere else! That was 4 years ago, and I haven't looked back! :)

*Meriam-Webster Definition in part:"uninterrupted duration or continuation especially without essential change"

Good for you!!!

The largest difference between us is I gave them three minutes notice...about the same as when they 'economically terminate' you.

Rat

LOL, yeah Rat, I got that "Economic Termination" call on a Friday in Jan 97, 9 of us did in Phoenix! BUT, I was one of three to get called back 5 weeks later, again, good attitude/rapport paid off!!!! I had been with Jaguar Fast Freight in Phoenix for two of those 5 weeks, they understood when I told them CWX wanted me back, no problem.

I truly don't regret my 12 years with Con-Way, I learned a hell of a lot about myself, being a good employee, and customer service! Hell, I even had a lot of great times, and memories too! I just got old, and they got tougher ;)

Thanks for all the replies.

Does anyboby know if freight is picking up, especially in St. Louis? I have noticed more trucks in general on the roads. I don't live in St. Louis anymore, but I travel there every 3 or 4 weeks and noticed more trucks on the road and in rest stops.

Have you seen many new drivers at your respective barns?

My application has been in for a week, but nothing yet. I called the terminal yesterday, and they said it has to go through Ann Arbor first.

that is interesting, i thought the "economic termination" thing got invented around dec. 2008. i believe at that time it was 1500 employees let go.

Most if not all of the guys in my SC went through a period of unemployment. Some longer others shorter. Some did walk-a-bout for a bit until they had work here again.
