Incline Village,NV.,Trucker was killed on a runoff ramp.

those ramps are more scary than actually having to deal with the brakes being too hot.
you see what happens when you hit them, the impact is so sudden, the load literally flies through your cab.
that scene must have been more horrific than i can even imagine with all that lumber crushing him like that
condolences to the guys family

I've hauled materials like this for years. Especially the composite decking like this most recent one... This stuff is slick as hydraulic fluid. As much as a flatbed driver hates a headache rack, a 3 or 5k pound rack could have saved his life potentially.

Condolences to his family.

I thought flatbeds head bulk heads to stop loads from entering the back of cabs?
Depends on the company, the rig and the driver.
Lots of tractors have racks/chain carriers/toolboxes but usually aluminum and U bolted to the frame. Not tough enough for
this type of load.
Some who value their posteriors;and haul mostly this type load or sheet steel, do have a bulkhead on the trailer.
Very strong , overlapped and welded to the trailer frame. Inconvenient if you need over hang on front for length.
Depends on the circumstances at the time of dispatch/loading/driver sense I suppose.

The bulkheads save their butts in many ways, the least of these being the need for less straps on loads with them... but even so, drivers hate throwing extra straps, and those extra straps, along with a bulkhead (true bulkhead) can truly save a life... Look at log trucks though, most of them are straight cab. You really don't want to panic stop with those...

Hope he didn't linger after Impact.

Hauled Coils, *******, briefly in '99 and no Headache Rack or other Device would stop one of them from flattening a Cab.
