An arbitrator once told me, "the company has the right to be stupid". So if the company chooses not to charge Wal-Mart accessorial charges, so be it. The Teamsters can't force them to. Let's just move the freight. Besides, running a liftgate/residential route might be a little more labor intensive, but the tip money can be great.

Real smart to mention this point,, one problem with tip money is the company can and will fire you for accepting tips,, so its best to let the customer know to keep this part quiet

wal-mart has only a handful of drivers that they did years ago, they are being phased out, looks like to me.
You must not be on the road much I guess? Go past one of their DC's, and look how many of "their" tractors, or parking spots for their trucks are there.

Not at my barn. They have no problem with us accepting tips. Maybe that's a Roadway thing, or a terminal thing. I ran a gate for a while, and my dispatcher would ask me all the time how the tips were for the day.

Who do you work for, and where? (if you don't mind me asking).

And sometimes the visual impact of the consignee in a residential delivery can make your day and be a delight to behold!! :1036316054:

It was a Rdwy thing.....was told by the TOM that if you were doing enough to get a tip then you were probably doing something they should be paid for...IE inside delivery....Call before.....Silly but true

Yikes, glad I didn't work for that outfit!! :hide:

I turned down a lot of tips during my time at Roadway when I thought the delivery was just to easy. On the other hand I pocketed quite a few tens and twenty's when I felt I earned the money. My best tip was $50.00. Never reported a tip and never got in trouble over one.

Why....at least I never had to do an IS delivery "Cause the shipper said you would bring it in" :duh:

That's when you hand the phone to the consignee with dispatch on the other end.

Besides, you know how pro athletes put on the good act to pretend they've been fouled don't you? Well, don't you know how to look like you've struggled so hard to get the delivery made so that the nice looking consignee offers you a cool drink or a not so nice looking consignee offers you a larger tip?? :19:

Nope....never took a tip.....nothing from the dumpster ....and no 12 minute coffee breaks. :hide: And as far as looking at Pretty Consignee"s it was not the TOM that worried me. :438:

I don't come to work in slacks and patent leather shoes, bro! I run triples, D&H EVERY day. Via customers either load or unload from time to time. Find another lazy @$$ for your example. Give me a two wheeler and rest assured I'll make the delivery.

You must have found contentment in your work and life.

Wow, 12 minute breaks, that brings back memories of Buster Brown days - 20 "clicks" for coffee break back in the day or the tachograph would give you away.
