IS this just an Northeast thing??? But the big barns over here usally most of the time. Will pull hazmat across the yard spot trailers etc and are not properly placarded...
Correct me if i'am wrong but lawman says you cant pull trailer from the door unless proplery placarded????
just who's held resposable for that the tm,dock super, Jocky........we follow the laws to a tee when in are care as a driver... why dont the terminals they sureing would hand down displine if we didnt.......

Must be a northeast thing. These southern terminals are ran with perfection. :hide:

Just be sure to carry one of those small, razor blade scrapers with you. I use mine every week getting orange stuff off.

Trailers in the dock doors are an extension of the terminal they should be placarded once loaded and doors closed, but we can't have dock workers running outside and placarding every load and crawling between trailers, but after pulled away from the door by jockey, dock worker, whoever is in charge of the trailer when dropped in yard should placard it. Ultimately just like everything else here once you hook in to it as a driver it's your responsibility to make sure proper placarding on trailer...This is what I was told by Safety and Compliance Manager. At least your only getting them pulled across the yard, I recently got one out of KC which was a relay from Cali and one side had Corrosive Placard, front had flammable, one side had only orange panel with UN number and rear had nothing...and the bills said no hazmat at all...brought in by a trusted contract carrier...Be safe and God Bless

Shared responsibility i think. Dockworker loads it, placard the damn trailer. Driver should check the bills to ensure correct placarding, but shouldnt be driver responsibility to placard it as well. I already have enough to check, and it takes two mins to properly placard a trailer.

According to DOT Haz/Mat regulations, it's to be placarded as soon as the product is loaded, not when the door comes down...And changed accordingly to the other Haz/Mat products loaded later...

" Not my job, let the next guy worry about it " seems to be the norm at the smaller terminals, and even drivers for that matter, taking a screw driver and scratching out the un numbers and leaving the rest of the placard on. Just glad it"s not my cdl these infractions are going on !! Fire chief would be very torqued off to see trailers in yard mty, with flammable placards still on it !!

or loaded with flam with no placs in the yard.....
Ya that's my perspective on this i'am not being lazy that i dont want plac the trailer... but being a VOL. Firefighter i see this as a scary scenerio if i was to have to come to an Estes term.

That's always been my understanding of the law. We have the problem of placarded empties or reloaded trailers at our terminal. Went to do a switch at a customer last week and the trailer I was picking up was placarded with flammable when wet UN2813. One of our brighter drivers must've pulled that trailer over there.

We brought this same subject up at our yard, was told we were not correct and did not know what we were talking about. Then after researching it tm, found out that it did have merit, and we were told we were only stirring the pot to have something to complain about "non issue " Glad I'm not Rob, having to pay out these haz mat fines, with such disregard for the law.

This is absolutely correct. Placards removed when Haz-Mat removed. Placards applied when Haz-Mat loaded. Imagine an intense dock fire and trailers with Haz-Mat need pulled from the dock immediately. Trailers at dock with Haz and no placards, trailers at dock with no Haz and placards. Which ones to pull. Yard men have to check with stupidvisor to find out which to pull to lessen the danger. I've heard this 'extension of the dock bull before'. Common sense rules. We are not playing kid games here. I've seen a 250 door terminal burn half way to the ground in just a few minutes. Seems like no matter the company you hear the same dumb answers.

depends where you are. Our state if there in the yard, its still considered dock. Its stupid and unsafe. But thats what it is.
Johnny lawman says they cant inspect til it leaves yard.

DOT is federal...Doesn't matter what "state" it's in....The law is the same everywhere....If an officer comes on your yard and does a check on trailers, it's just as bad as if you were on the road with the load..The company is ticketed, if a violation is found....

DOT up here said they wont inspect hazmat loads with no placards on it if still in company yard. They'll wait til it hits road. What do you expect. We live a politically f*uped area. Think I just gave away my location.

That's their choice, but they can, if they want to....LMAO... I won't tell nobody........

Call the local fire marshall. I'm sure they would be interested in trailers in the yard with hazmat that aren't placarded if they are called to a fire.

All I ever wanted to do was come to work do my job and go home. I have my own problems to worry about.

That's my thinking mud...But now, you have to come to work,to make sure the knucklehead behind the glass, doesn't help you lose your job......Accountability is the big thing...This "I didn't know" mentality will get you fired, not him...Haz Mat education, is a terrible thing to waste.......
