Any dockworkers who were full tIme and who now are part time under 32 hours can apply for reduced hours pay at the unemployment office.

Depending on your State, since they are the ones who manage unemployment. A few of our dock guys don't deserve two hours a week, some deserve a healthy salary for all they do, but again the good are being drug down by the bad

5 in South Bend, 13 in Indianapolis to part time 5-21, those 13 didn't show up on the Friday night shift. No ins., no bennies, little kids at home. Some have no choice but to "explore other opportunities".

put all the dock workers on part-time so no ins, bennies, anything. then turn around and try to hire more part-time dock workers. try to staff up. doesnt make a whole lot of sense.

the NEW part time dock workers at my terminal are a joke.most all of them have NO forklift experience and cant compehend how the freight is suppose to be loaded and wheres it going. they misload freight every night. i think this part time workers are going to cost vitran at least in the short term. a few have quit already and some fired when their drug test and criminal background check came back.

now there's more damaged freight done on purpose and linehaul is late now. lol. there goes keylons poke & choke early cut times. chasing greatness, right.

So they can be put on payroll before results come back? I could not start P&D a year and a half ago UNTIL my results came back, even though legal, but against company policy

Surprised we have not yet. I for one have no interest in it, seeing what they have done to other trucking companies with their sill rules, and i do not see drivers standing together for anything anyway

Yep 9:00 AM start time do not leave terminal till 12:00 noon makes for a great day.
Unfortunatly I'm one of the ones that got demoted to part time and the messed up thing is is that most of the parttimers here in indy are the best workers..and now they are working the full time guys anywhere from 12 to 16 hrs a day...and expecting them to work 6 days a week...they worked us partimers like hell this week and kicked us out at 30 hrs so most likely we won't be going in tonight. And tonight they are suppose to tell us partimers what shift we will be starting next week...this company is ******* so many people over its unreal....mine as well change our name to fedex and call it a day

I like how they cut 75% of our dockworkers to 30 hours or less, and now they are advertising to hire more part time workers to fill the gap. I think now it was simply to cut the benefits out for all the now part timers. That's dirty pool. if they cut because the drivers are going to be doing it, or things are slow, I understand. But simply to reduce benefit costs? That's low....how about making managers pay for their insurance, rather than getting it free like now..

And I hope you were punched in for that time too!! I went through this with my TM last year, saying we could not punch in till our DR's were in our hands! BS buddy, Federal Labor Laws say that if a hourly employee is told to report to work at a certain time, employer must pay at that time even if work was not started, or earlier if you walking in door and told to go to work. You are not allowed to do any work product (drug tests, physical, inspect equipment, ect) without being on clock if you are an hourly employee under FEDERAL LAW. If you hook up and hit yourself with dolly crank, or cut your hand on a placard holder, they can refuse workman's comp BECAUSE you were not on the clock

cleveland has been hiring new guys left and right, most of whom don't know their ass from a hole in the ground. (don't get me started on our yard guys) dockworkers were told that they'd be putting in bids for full time positions, but there'd only be somewhere around 5 per shift available. we've got around 15-20 dock workers per shift. i'm amazed as hell we haven't had a riot or walk outs. when all this was told to them, one dockworker looked our TM straight in the eyes and asked him "So basically we're getting ****ed because you guys don't want to give us the hours? And you think offering us the chance to get a CDL will make up for that? We don't wanna ******* drive, we want to work the dock and go home" The TM basically ignored the question and moved on

Well, just remember, "it" runs downhill, your TM most likely was told to say that in writing as per corporate, and maybe to ignore any response, and move on. Right now is a bad time to be a TM, so much coming down the line,,,,, like a salesman working the car lot, sell sell sell, but you have to jump start the cars for test drives.

Anyone else having damage and/or wrong load orders? My damages are as low as last month, but things keep getting loaded in wrong order of delivery. Don't get me wrong, sometimes I like it that way, purposely stacking double high skids next to each other even though they are not in order just to hold each other up, or squeezing a drum in somewhere so it doesn't have to be strapped. Just walking through dock in morning you can feel the attitude and disgust against Vitran.
