Yellow | What do you like about working here @ YRCW ? What do you Hate about working here ?

lets keep on track here.....

likes--- decent pay even with the give back(not happy bout it),benefits are good, overall working here is a huge difference from what i had in past.

dislike--- ungratefull messters that have no idea what is on the outside besides working at yrcf. extra board can be rough at times but i know with time it will be better. driveing with a scumbag on a sleeper run sucks but the odds of you seening him often is slim so i just bare with it but its not often most guys are very kool.

being aroad driver here is easy. go to this terminal then this one . sure i stop at a customer sometimes no biggie. sleeping at hotels is way better than a truck in a truckstop or ramp. the being on call isint great but its workable i would rather be on call anyday then work like a slave just cuz i had a somewhat of a schedule. driving on sleepers can be rough if sleeping in a moving truck bothers you but its not like you run them here constantly on the extra board. ive done the loose leaf log book crap with rewriting day after day to look leagal and drive maybe double the legal limit on hours with no benefits what so ever just a check and a a-hole owner that is never wrong about anything and according to him you are screwing up all the time. most people complain about this place but i find it that its a dahm good place to work. while i was laid off i was obviously trying to get into abf,ups and upsf. Since i have been back i not looking to go else where, im going to stick it out here and im happy to be here

for future employees if they would like to know what an extra board guy does in chicago heights paywise goes something like this. i was laid off for 2.5 years so i dont have a lot of senoirity. if i am trying to take it easy one week where im am taking slides and days off i can still get called 4-5 times a week while earning apx 900-1200 a week before taxes. on a week that i want to work i can manage to work 6-7 days of the week and make 1600-1800 before tax. i have no kids yet and not married so i so far dont pay a dime on my health per week. for me taking some days off and having a average week is 1400, the max ive had is 2200. i personally think i get called quite consistently and i get a decent time off but people opinions can vary what good time off is. i lost a house in the recession so i think im runing a bit hard right now because i want to. so if anybody like that kinda numbers and a union work place should consider filling out an aplication.

Pro. Got a job
Con. No future.
Gonna die on a lift truck cause you or I cannot ever retire on what they offer now a days.

Pro: working steady, good union steward, ok pay, know what hours i'm working every week, vacations, a/c breakroom, end in sight!
Con: Yellow Roadway thing going on, Not being allowed to fix things i know are wrong, Management top to bottom, That smell.

I'm ready to kick that a$$ when they are! What are we waiting on?

You should try the "Joke Thread".....

You might be more comfortable there.

This company just about ***** you and your families and you want to play show and tell!?! This is the joke thread.

This company just about ***** you and your families and you want to play show and tell!?! This is the joke thread.

How can you be "*****" when you gave your consent? Good thing you're not a lawyer (Don't quit your day job).

PS- rhymes with crab

Stay on topic, vent your dislikes, share your likes. If you cannot do either, why would you continue to subject yourself to these working conditions? If you no longer work for YRC Freight, then move on from this topic.

Would figure you gave consent. I'm not a ****. Good luck

You are clueless about knowing whether or not I gave my consent. However the result of the vote taken by all those affected was clear. That's the deciding factor but I guess it takes something you don't have (common sense) to figure that out.

As far as your statement that you're not a "four asterisk" that rhymes with "crab", knock yourself out convincing us what you're not and good luck back to you also.

Like: decent pay ( would still like my 15% back), work with mostly good guys, job is fairly easy.

Dislike: Incompetent management.... being laid off every winter for last 4 years after 13 years of service.... mesters that work 60 - 70 hrs and make $60,000 - $70,000 a year, while men at the bottom half of the board can't even get 40 hours and can barely make $30,000 and guys at the bottom 20% not even that.... we're all in this together ... Yea right! ..... division among fellow teamsters ...... and last but not least, I'll never see any pension.

I like the people that I work with. I like my 7pm start time and being home everyday with my family. I hate people who still think one company was better than the other. I hate u guys on here that are so dam negative.

I don't like the fact that as of recently.the company has been taking many tractors out of service leaving our terminal short on power.with a hog board that is not good.
That some of our dock workers don't work the fair days pay for a fair days work motto.
I don't like the fact we aren't treated like we are a part of this company.no input allowed. We are family has left since the merge.
I don't like that a lot of us Teamsters feel betrayed by our own representatives.
I like it when I get to work a little.I don't like the fact that many of us have sacrificed so much for this company including divorces and bankruptcy.
I don't like what this company has turned some of us into(greed and hatred)
I don't feel the same anymore like I used to.If you look hard enough you can find some good things.i have I just can't remember all of them

Im tired of thinking about layoff every time it slows down,The clock riders get 60 hours while ill sit by the phone and wait for the phone to ring.Eight years and still on the bottom,I know some will say I have to pay my dues I say bullcrap the top 10 percent of my terminal is whats killing yrc. They cry about tractors, routes, and dispatch. Some only run 1 stop loads and milk the clock every chance they get and cry when they work 5 minutes over there 8.It seems like seniorty means you can stick the work off on the junior men while your napping or stopped at the mall .Iv been driving 32 years and feel like im working with a bunch of lazy people,Iv worked for 2 other ltl companies and they treat all drivers the same .

I'm really frustrated that the company runs freight around us.if its not the dock having issues or the yard or garage. It has been this way for as long as I've worked here.It hurts our drivers. It causes pre mature layoffs.Wished that we all could work like a well oiled machine.I know that the company isn't an angel about these issues.I talked to this one driver. He said he has been laid off for as long as he has worked hereHe bumps in some other terminal.Works there till he gets laid off.then he comes back to my dormicile.till he gets laid off again.he had a different job for a couple years.Company called him back.they had freight. Then he gets laid off.God Bless him.

I agree with you that some of the senior guys are like that, but, from my experience so far, the vast majority are not. They are really good dudes & seem genuinely concerned that I am able to hang on. I can, no problem, because, I prepared myself for this. However, how long will I wish to be laid off every Winter? I can't say. I am new to this industry & I have learned a crap load, but, I still have a MOUNTAIN of stuff to learn. Once I get a better handle on things, I will be able to comprehend advise. Also, if it looks like I will be laid off for the Winter for the next 20 years, I will probably have to leave. I'm too old. Oh well, I'm still glad and proud I was able to make a career change at my age. One thing's for sure, there are alot of options out there. I like it here and would like to stay here so I will do my utmost to stay.

Addendum: Ok, the God damned election is OVER! Can we get back to business now? Please?

Dislikes: Bonehead management, aging equipment, the great divide between Roadway vs. Yellow, too many individuals who fail to see that we NEED to stick together rather than brown-nosing to work around seniority, and the knowledge that this time doesn't count toward retirement.

Likes: At YRC freight, I've had the opportunity to meet and work with some of the finest individuals in the industry. I learned a lot about the history of trucking. I've been shown tips from the best. How often do you work at a trucking company with drivers who have a seniority date prior to your date of birth? When you work with some of the right people they teach you about what really matters in life and all of the rest is just small stuff.
The pay is good(even minus the 15%). The benefits are good. Working conditions are pretty good and it's a lot of fun to mess with idiot management. Thanks to all of you who keep the TEAMSTER spirit alive!
