Central Transport | FedEx big wigs.

Some sort of take over seems eminent. If these FedEx guys are as good as reported, why are they being let go so easily. But the question is why the interest in a sinking ship? Perhaps there is a deal for a gateway into the great white north. FedEx takes over U.S. operations for a partnership into Canada.

That's what they bought Watkins for.

top management middle management and safety personel are moving to vitran = a possible take over...makes sence to me or they just want to get away for more money.....

safety my ass, if it wasn't for the proper drivers standing up and saying NO! things would not even be as good (or bad) as they are.

They didn't do this when the bought Watkins. It would probably be illegal, insider trading type stuff. We already have Canada.

my thoughts exactly. With vitrans terminals and watkins terminals together fedex will be able to have better service in canada. My opinion and a few others. Big announcement in sept. At fedex we will find out then i hope. Good luck to us all

FedEx doesn't really do partnerships. They want control, plain and simple! Our new CEO at FedEx Freight is all about being the biggest in LTL and I wouldn't put it past them to buy Vitran for the larger Canadian network. Although one of our big wigs said yesterday that there is nothing in the works in regards to Vitran, I don't believe him. If they flat out deny something then that usually means something is in the works!

remember the video where he said he liked everyone and nobodys job is in jepardy, or something to that effect. look at things now, let's see about these so called raises. i think he might give a raise if fed ex is not ready to take over completely, but if they do i don't see one. i do believe this will be a sudden purchase so buy up the stock.

Exactly why they would not be saying a buyout if it was in the works, that IS insider trading, and all could go to prison. Me, I think there is more money to be made by getting things straight and moving forward, after all, a sell out is usually a one time payout (unless they let you keep some stock) This could be a great place, if we stay open long enough to get there

I remember when Vitran bought PJAX no one saw it coming, even girls in corporate I was talking to that morning were like oh that must be why donny, mark, etc were here so early and we heard something about a big conference call, we knew something was up but not what.

as long as I have a job and don't get "*****" on pay, I don't care who's name is on the side of the truck, wait and see, got to many years to start over unless I'm forced to.

Also consider the consolidation of terminals, and in my case, I live closer to FE than VT's freight terminals, so less driving everyday

keep this in mind when Fedex bought Watkins and called them LTL freight they gave all the Watkins drivers new dates of hire. So then they merged them with us (Freight) most all of them got screwed. They have guys that were doing 400-500+ mile runs that in a short order of time were doing 40-80 runs to the hub to work the dock all night. Its true they still have jobs but they are not happy about the way things went down and look at us as the enemy. What I've heard from management about how to tell if Fedex is buying Vitran or not, or these guys just up and left is, watch and see if Fedex hires new guys to fill the positions that are open. If they are left open than they probably will be back and it was a takeover. If the spots are filled then they are not coming back.

So, our high years P&D and Linehaul would get bumped back down to closer my wage (5 years and under) that would be $600 a week for Linehaul, and $200 for P&D base wage,,,,,,,,,, that will be the final decision that breaks most of their backs since now it makes since to take a 10% cut and go to another comparable carrier.

i do believe vitran only owns 20-30 terminals in the u.s. and all of their terminals in canada. fed ex could easily shutdown or combined vitrans u.s. division if they wanted. seems like the crown jewel would be the canadian operation. the majority of the u.s. terminals and new trucks are leased and can be easily discarded with no consequences to fed ex. just take the accts and prime terminals in the u.s. and dispose the rest while keeping entact the canada operation, plus one less competitor.

No, not totally without a downside. If Fe buys us, they also inherit all contracts, including truck and trailer leases, and last I hear we only picked up 500 of them 900 trailers

well, at least they'll be good equipment. they could s-can all pjax blue tractors, junk trailers and eventually move out of leased terminals if they choose.

trucking companies usually set up a company (using a differnet name) to purchase the trucks, then that company leases the trucks to the trucking company.
